  • How weird! Did you get a sense of the tyre clearance?

  • Nah, already sorted meself out with summat. Was between sizes on the niner anyway, so was always going to be a compromise on fit.

  • So I think they released three models. One that was fully QR - then they upgraded the frame to take Thru-Axle, and then developed a V.2 fork.

    So, I think it's the V.2 frame, with V.1 fork - so late 2015/early 2016 model I guess.

Don't think the fork clearance has changed since inception so 42-45mm depending on tyre. Photo of the fork attached (with damage...)

  • wuh? I'd ask if they can supply you with a bolt through fork. Makes more sense up front.

  • @Super_Ted how did you find the 1x setup for gearing? any problems with chain slipping off?

Got the 2017 model and looking to gear up also. Thinking 1x8, road shifter and road derallieur. Also the creaking sound is still in the newer model, I have changed bb, thinking it was that, but your solution might be the one.....

  • Still using it. Got a 40t Superstar narrow-wide on the front and 36t back. Never felt like I've needed more gears, and never dropped the chain, despite some sections rough enough to eject water bottles!

  • Here's how the Niner turned out... Super comfy, excellent commuter, and has been good on the couple of longer rides I've done on it. Hoping to do my first 200k audax later this year.

  • So... it's moved on a bit since the version above. New Spork fork, 2x groupset and 30c tyres (also need some new mudguards).

  • And all change again... gone to 650b, with the ubiquitous WTB tyres.

Think I'll go back to 1x10 soon too (when I have some time to re cable)

  • Any recommendations on what compressionless cable housing to use for the Spyres?

  • Nice bike! Re housing I used goodridge from CRC. It was ok.

  • So, I've gone back to 1x. I thought I'd give 2x a go after inheriting the 105 from an eBay purchase. Although it worked ok, just didn't really see the point when the 1x had almost the same low gear (and I'm unlikely to be using the 50*11 much at all...)

Now, need to decide whether I get some mudguards to fit the 700*30 tyres a few pictures above, or the 650*47. Been doing a lot of audaxing recently... Will the 650b be too much work? Should I get guards for the 700c and use them for the Audaxes?
