Why would they do this? It's not as if they have an effective monopoly (c.f. epi-pens), it's an entirely replaceable treatment, with myriad alternatives that are actually show to work.

Paywall, which I don't find a problem, but if you post a paywalled link, it would be good to add a brief explanation of what you're talking about.

Am I supposed to know who half the "shit ton" of self-regarding "famous people" in that video are?
And why is it such a pain in the arse to sign into the forum these days?

Someone who's following this closer than I've been: https://www.london.gov.uk/press-releases/mayoral/review-to-be-conducted-into-garden-bridge-project
Didn't he already say he wouldn't be doing anything because they've already spent so much money (sunk cost fallacy)? Is he calling for more money to be spent despite this?
Is this a good thing? I hope it's a good thing.
The goals (in particular: "To set out any lessons that should be learnt in order to improve the conduct of potential and approved projects in the future") don't leave me that hopeful, however.

Its a really weird situation. He has never hidden the fact that he thought me may have killed somebody in an incident in 1988 in Amsterdam. Story goes that somebody tried to mug him and he punched the mugger and threw him in a canal. He didn't see the mugger get out so feared the worst but the authorities never followed it up. Until now it seems.

The Guardian even ran an article asking if he would live to regret admitting the killing.

Is this a good thing? I hope it's a good thing.
My reading of the situation is that he wants to cancel the project, but is putting together a watertight case to do so. There's this, plus the National Audit Office and the Charities Commission all looking at aspects of the project. I'm fairly certain they'll find enough dirt around the procurement process to justify it's cancellation.

Cool - despite being a pretty dumb idea, I agree with you - finding dirt shouldn't be too hard as the entire thing reeks.

The most disturbing part of that story is :
He adopted the name de Mooi when modelling.

Oh come on, we've all done it...

Speak for yourself.
If I found myself inadvertently chucking someone in a canal, particularly someone inebriated and likely to drown, I'd be terrified for him and be racing to get help to save the man's life.
Wouldn't you?
What's with this 'come on, we've all done it...'.
I would say no, we have NOT 'all' done such a thing.Oh dear, clarelondon...

I think the issue was less sunk costs, more that they were tied into contracts where the cancellation fee didn't make it worth stopping the project. I guess they may well be looking for a way out of that
