Reynolds 753 and 653 are steel tubesets that have the same constituant elements and external tube profiles as 531. What makes them superior in strength is the level of heat treatment applied. 753 and 653 have the same tube guages (drawn thinner than 531) but as the main tubes of 653 are of a lesser strength than 753 there are (were) frame builders who consider it inferior to the other two sets and would not use it. This Gazelle frame is a bit of a dark horse, as it were. It would appear that the forks and stays are from a different steel manufacturer so to badge it up 653 may be stretching the truth a bit as 653 is very much a tube set.
