  • I've got a 2015 croix 30, I use it for touring and some leisurely road rides, great bike but too nice to ride through winter. Think it would be expensive to maintain 11 speed and hydro discs in northern winter. Thinking of one of these as mrs TM has a Smithfield based on same frame with hub gear and it's really nice. Seems a sensible commuter. Lots of opinions about hub gear durability / reliability but I think a lot comes from people who don't know their stuff.

  • TM pls, 11spd and hydro would be fine through winter. Think how many CX bikes are getting properly filthy every week with similar setups.

You just want a new bike...

  • I just wore out an 8 speed chain after ~1200 miles, easy and mostly dry miles.

    Phuk dat.

Cross bikes with derailleur gears and hyrdro brakes take maintaining, I would rather deal with the occasional hub dip than regular cleaning/oiling etc

Also mud does not equal salt.

And den, GT won't take guards and decent size tyres, want to keep CDF nice, new bike makes most sense.

    Ordered today.
