Well, the beast is back from service and looking better than ever. Now I have the unwelcome conundrum of working out which one to move on. The 300m is (relatively) more versatile but the 1000m feels a bit more special and exotic. Can't justify keeping both. Decisions, decisions.

You have an interesting definition of versatile! I'd definitely keep the 1000!
Also, i'd be tempted to mod it with a bezel from the new Turtle reissue (black+gold) to match the rest of the watch (assuming its the same dimensions, obvs)

I mean versatile in the context of the 1000m, obviously it's not quite a JLC ultra-thin! Turtle bezels are quite different IIRC. Besides, this one is TiN coated which means it's ubercooler. I'm going to wear them both in rotation for a few weeks and see which one 'speaks to me'.
