Another bike caught my eye and I’m entertaining adulterous thoughts. Alas, I don’t have the finances to have both, so before I commit I’d have to sell my current run-around.
It’s a Marin Bear Valley 26’, Shimano Exage kit (biopace), Deore hubs, Araya rims, Maxxis DTH 2.3 tyres. It’s been used, and it shows.
IMPORTANT #1: There’s one dent (more of a deformation, really) on the drive-side seatstay, I know that can bother some, but has no effect apart from cosmetic. I forget it's there, and there's a bit of black tape on top to make it so.
IMPORTANT #2: The seatpost and saddle are not included, but it will come with a black seatpost and saddle (both Marin original). Apologies these are not pictured yet, but I can do that later on at home if needed.
The paint is the matt Zolatone thing they did those days. It’s kind of nice. I’d describe the frame and components as solid mid-range kit. It all works well, I ride it every day. A few bits and wearables are relatively new (less than 150km): chain (new), pedals, levers, brake blocks, cables, mudguard, tyres.
I ran it single speed until a couple of weeks ago. Just removed derailleur, mech, thumbies and cables, and replaced cassettes sprockets with spacers. If one wants to do that, I’m happy to include the wide chain and cassette spacers.
It’s a nice bike. In the city will do the same job as, say, a Pompino (without being an effing Pompino), with generous tyre clearance and the opportunity to do a bit of offroad.
£220
or
£160 with original Rockstar tyres and no mudguards
