  • off your high horse.....

I saw Cadel on a Jodie Marsh doco Over the weekend. Describing how steroid side effects turned her into a man.

The voice alone should given it away years ago to be fair......

  • That's still how they monitor for signs of EPO abuse. The only other way is if you're caught 'glowing' i.e. it's still in your system within 24 hours or so after taking it.

  • My horse isn't high, it has a TUE, it's all legit...

There's also tests that measure new blood cells and reticulites and other wonderful shit so they can tell if you've been using EPO even if there's no EPO in your system.

    http://www.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/pubmed/15228161

"Five different hematopoietic parameters were initially chosen as indirect markers of rEPO abuse: concentration of serum EPO, concentration of serum-soluble transferrin receptors (sTFr), hematocrit, percentage of reticulocytes, and percentage of macrocytes. New models considering only hemoglobin, serum EPO concentration, and percentage of reticulocytes are simpler and seem to be more sensitive when low doses of rEPO are used. A more direct method of urine analysis (isoelectrofocusing, double blotting, and chemiluminescent detection) based on the charge differences between rEPO and endogenous EPO, related to their carbohydrate composition, provides proof of rEPO use."

  • This is why a healthy skepticism around cycling is healthy.

Because even if Team Sky have played by the rules, the feeling of unease about the rules now is likely to lead to some kinds of concrete changes - you'd hope.

What would the objections be to automatically disclosing TUEs? That we find out about genital warts etc?

  • TUEs should remain private as with other medical history.

  • Interesting David Millar hasn't said anything. So far he's been quoted widely but the quotes are years old.

  • A TUE is one thing, but personally, I'll become REALLY suspicious if Wiggins is shown to have had a WED or a THU.

  • in 2011 there were something like 200 TUEs applied for with the UCI, last year there were 15 and the decline was clear year on year

Oh, it only means they're all doing it secretly now. :)

Some fairly damning comments in here from Jeroen Swart.

Unfortunately I reach the sad conclusion that they used the cover of Wiggins' asthma to use this PED before major target races.

  • Is there a victim here?

  • Is there a victim here?

If you conclude that Sir Bradley won the 2012 Tour as a result of deliberate manipulation of the TUE system, then the victim is Chris Froome, whose Tour count would now be 4 instead of 3.

  • And thus, he truly earned that knighthood.

  • Cycling tips has just published an article on why to take creatine.

Seems a bit ironic, given their lamenting of wiggins and co.

  • Wiggins' tattooist? With his aversion to needles now so public, I can't see him getting any new ink in the foreseeable future.

  • Isn't creatine just expensive specific food?

  • Creatine is totally legal, found in food.

How does it compare to something you need to score a TUE for?

  • Nothing illegal about a TUE.

  • Creatine is totally legal, found in food.

According to Contador, clenbuterol is found in food too. Presumably steak tartare contains EPO, and testosterone too if it's made from bull. There's no food more primitive than raw leaves, so coca must be fine too.

  • "Legal" as in doesn't require a special dispensation to use.

TUE substance is dodgy enough that it requires some dudes to go "sure, you have a medical reason to have that in your body and it's not for performance gains"

  • Yeah but Clen is banned and only found in food because it's added to it.

If digested EPO or testosterone made a difference to the positives tests they'd cater for it.

You wanna get high as the Team Sky...

  • Once you start making concentrated extracts from plants or animals so that you can get more of the desired molecules into your system than would be practical by eating whole food, you're doing pharmacology not cookery.

  • Why isn't it banned then?
Overdose on creatine and you shit lots. Overdose on Sky juice and you die.
Wait, are you trolling the troll now? I'm so tired I've lost track. I need a ProPlus...

  • Does that make tomato puree pharma?
