  • After a turbulent few weeks health wise I decided to take a mental health day, sent the little one off to childcare and started my weekend early on friday. Haven't done anything fruther than 50k for a long while, so rode out to McLaren Vale from Adelaide.

Beautiful weather, but very gusty and wind speeds up to 40kph.

I had good fun, but unfortunately a) completely mismanaged the food intake and b) didn't account for the headwind and the climbs back.

Made it to McLaren Vale quite hungry, the ate a too heavy portion there and started riding back already knackered and feeling slightly ill. I started climbing back up the first couple of lumps on the way back, got hit by a hard gust and completely hit the wall, even with a 40/40 ratio on the Wolverine. I decided I had enough and took the train back into town. 75ish k total (didn't track all of it) and a pretty good ride all together, but I have to work on my fuelling strategy and stamina. However it was a good step towards my goal of getting back up to regular 70 - 100k rides.

Then Sunday did an easy 40k flat ride with a friend who is a waaaaay stronger rider than me, even Everested recently. Same thing happened: Gusty headwind wind instantly stopped me in my tracks. But I did get out there, and it's becoming more and more regular.
