But the rules can be abused. Back in the day you were within the rules if you had a haematocrit measure under 50%.
This is only because at that stage they had no other way of establishing EPO abuse.
That's still how they monitor for signs of EPO abuse. The only other way is if you're caught 'glowing' i.e. it's still in your system within 24 hours or so after taking it.
