Do any London shops have fat bikes in stock?

I'm going to be attempting to fit and ride some 2.4 conti mountain kings to my stache's mulefut rims, as the chupacubras still refuse to stop trying to kill me in the muddy stuff....I hope they don't pop off the 50mm beads and try to kill me a different way....pics later when it happens!

If anyone has any fatbike stuff let me know, specifically a wheelset (think single speed preferred). Cheers.

50mm internal? I think your shoulder knobs might end up in a funny place. I've got a 2.4 mountain King II on a 30mm internal rim and I'm not sure I'd like to push that much further.
Edit - Just checked. They're 45mm internal. You could try some of the newer Maxxis 'wide trail' tyres, if you're after something with more tread than the current 29er + options.

I've already bought the MK's in the protection black chilli version, as they were a bargain at £23 a pop....I thought it would be worth trying them, as I'll use them on the salsa if not.....apparently they are a mud tyre....I get what you mean about the tread being in the wrong place, but I won't know till they are aired up. I think the chupas are so bad as they 'float' on the gloop, rather than cut through it to the firmer stuff underneath......

Obvs.....!
Well, they're on, and look alright.....I think I'll need something with mudability tomorrow......it's going to be biblical, by all accounts. I'll be going down to my mums, then the vape shop, then Epping forest.....not necessarily in that order though!
And I'm not putting any guards on, as I'm feeling like a muddy fucking gangster!
Absolutely shit loads of clearance too.......win!

They are working a treat so far..... Cornering well, even in slimy clay, and clearing fantastically!

Charlie already had 2 on order before the announcement, so he'll have something to strap a surfboard to that can be ridden on sand.

150mm Pro 2 hub ?
-
• #663
So I've just picked up a ritchey commando - 26 x 3.8 / 135mm front & 170mm rear hub.
Ideally I'd have two wheelsets a fat one and then a nice wide 29er one also for riding that doesn't really require a fat bike.
How easy would this be to do?

How does it ride?
Looks great

sorry wasn't clear -have just bought the frame, have yet to ride, pic was just for illustrative purposes.

Are you in the UK?
We don't really have conditions that require fat bikes so I'd expect you'll either like the slower bouncier ride from the fat wheels and the 29er wheels will sit unused or vice versa.

Are you saying that snow necessitates a fat bike?
IMO unless you live somewhere that it snows considerably more often that once or twice a year or, conversely, in the desert, fat bikes are an affectation and @plxarc will either enjoy that affectation and find little use for the 29er wheels or won't and will find little use for the fat wheels.
The weather and terrain to be ridden are unlikely to make the bike unrideable or even less enjoyable whichever set of wheels are fitted.

Nothing necessitates a fat bike. After all, you always have the option of walking. There are more things than drifts and dunes which can benefit from low ground pressure, like spongy moor tops.

Maybe I'll start with 29er wheels then as that's the kind of the riding I'll do predominantly.
Can I just buy 170mm rear and 135mm front hubs and lace them to 29er rims? Anything about this particularly stupid?
-
• #671
No. It's brilliant.
find a comparison between the outer wheel diameters to make sure that your intended tyre size will fit.

Super.
Another stupid question (new to this mountainbiking thing..) whats a good quick rolling tyre and width for pretty untechnical singletrack/ dirt road on a rigid mountain bike, will be set up with a jones loop bar and used to cover decent distances..

For my GF's Genesis Caribou, we bought a B+ wheelset for spring/summer riding from CtBM that saved 2.25kg over the stock wheelset with tubed OnOne Floater 4.0:
Hope Pro4 135QR(FDS), 170QR
Hope skewers
Fatlab 55 27.5"x55mm
Schwalbe Nobby Nic (front) & Rocket Ron (rear), both 27.5x3.0"
Gorilla tape and Stans fluidI've since replaced my OOF frameset and wheels with a Sandman Gobi rolling chassis which used the 26" version of the Fatlab 55 rim. Gives the Vee8 4.0 tyres they came with a very round profile, only about 3.7" wide but they corner really nicely.
I don't think B+ would be that much heavier than a conventional 29er wheelset but you'd keep some of the grip qualities of the fat wheelset.

Any nice steel frame sets with 150/197 spacing?
Get some bid standard mtb tyres (like the racing Ralph 2.4"). Run them.
If there's more clearance upgrade your rims.
These look nice and meaty. Are 2.5". Plus are cheap.
