Cannondale CAAD5 frame/forks 56cm

    56cm frame
Slice Premium forks (carbon steerer - uncut, carbon legs, alloy tips, these were originally built by Time for Cannonade and are still one of the best forks made - very light and very stiff). Now increasingly hard to come by in good condition.

Generally in great shape, no dents, no crash damage. There a number of little marks in the paint, cable rub to the head tube and the paint is starting to bubble in a few little places (primarily cable stops, under the bb and the rear brake bridge). Would obviously be immaculate with a respray (and this was my plan till being offered a Felt AR). I've owned from new (in 2005! I'd like to see it go to a good home and get the use it deserves).

    Photos here: http://s538.photobucket.com/user/Al_38/library/Cannondale

Easily built to (just) sub 8kg as pictured.

    £175
Parsons Green (but I have a spare frame box so could post).

I also have a full Campag Centaur groupset that could go with it (10s, 2008 vintage when everything was machined not stamped: 172.5 53/39 cranks, carbon levers, 13-26 or 12-23 cassette). The Ultra-Torque BB bearings are in need of replacement (c.£25). A 27.2 layback seat post and a set of Campag Khamsin wheels (never used outside, only ever on the turbo). PM me if interested in combining.

Not sure these were made by Time. I believe the Premium fork was Cannondale made / rebranded.

The full carbon, 300g Slice SI fork was made by time.

Still, nice frame, nice forks, fair price.

  • ultra torque bearings for 25?

why would anyone pay that much, when they can be had for 5gbp?

took 2 weeks to get them though. and Koyo bearings also manufacture 6mm thick 6805 bearings, which are perfect fit! Usually you can get a pair of them for around 2300 hungarian forints (cc. 7-8 gbp) in local hardware stores-bearing stores

this frame is something which is imho very reasonably priced! Handmade in USA, a piece of art, a very good alloy frame

Have a large thumbsup for the uncut-immaculate fork.

For this price, I hope you sell it in a day or two.

    have luck with the sale!

  • @Howard, I was under the impression that all the Slice forks (regular, Premium, Premium+, and SI) were all made by Time for Cannondale. AFAIK this was before any Cannondale carbon bikes and they were really a top end AL frame builder. Could be wrong though!

The 300g SI (dog's danglies of a fork) were hand made with a proprietary (to those forks) lay up, a little bit lighter and stiffer and a huge amount more expensive to make and hence discontinued :(. Haven't seen one of those in a while!

@Halbert fair point! I had just googled for "Campagnolo Ultra Torque bearings", but obviously there are plenty of other bearings of the right size / spec that are quite possibly better and a lot cheaper.

  • @zootsuit was looking for one of these.

Yeah, it's difficult to find the info, but more realistically - because of the sheer volume Time would have been required to produce had they built the full range - the Premium forks would have been made by someone like Kinesis Taiwan, and Time would have built only the Si fork. Cannondale won't tell you, though :)

  • Bump for the weekend crowd

  • Cheers @Howard, only just saw this!

  • Sorry for offtpic, but could you take picture of bb cable guide? My caad 5 is missing one and its hard to find if modern ss evo etc ones fit.

Thanks and good luck with sale! :)

  • @AndrewG

The frame sold last night and I boxed it up to be shipped today. Not super keen to unwrap it!

That said, the cable guide looked identical to this:
    http://www.cannondaleexperts.com/Cannondale-Bottom-Bracket-Double-Cable-Guide-for-ALLOY-Frames--KF002_p_158.html
Which appears to be available in the UK here:
    http://www.tritoncycles.co.uk/frames-forks-c6/frame-fork-spares-c152/cannondale-bb-double-cable-guide-5-pcs-p7831

In description: 2 small plastic spurs to secure into the hole in the BB. The main body is mostly square with a longer semi-pipe running off for the front derailleur

  • I work at Chelmer cycles in chelmsford and it's worth giving us a call as we have loads of cannondale cable guides from the last 20 years

  • @Alc For sure, no need to unwrap the whole frame!
Thanks for the info! Glad it sold, sort of bargain.

@Explosifpete I would love to, but im am not UK based, sadly.
