Why TRP mini V with risers? You'll have to go out of your way to replicate the cable pull with suitable flat-bar brake levers (rather than using generic v-brake compatible ones). Seems odd to me.

So that he can still use them if he decides to go back to drops?

Got the brake set up with levers from @timbre so don't need to stress about finding correct tings.
