Finished MTBeater. Whole thing has cost me a fiver. Does still need a front brake which I just need a hanger for and some new fat tyres. Can't find any cheap gum walls so it'll be either hookworms or crazy bobs I think.

I've got a 2015 croix 30, I use it for touring and some leisurely road rides, great bike but too nice to ride through winter. Think it would be expensive to maintain 11 speed and hydro discs in northern winter. Thinking of one of these as mrs TM has a Smithfield based on same frame with hub gear and it's really nice. Seems a sensible commuter. Lots of opinions about hub gear durability / reliability but I think a lot comes from people who don't know their stuff.

I have considered these but I think I'd rather a rounder profile

Is that the Thorn Audax fork? Looks good. So slim it's probably pretty comfortable too?

Why TRP mini V with risers? You'll have to go out of your way to replicate the cable pull with suitable flat-bar brake levers (rather than using generic v-brake compatible ones). Seems odd to me.

So that he can still use them if he decides to go back to drops?

It is yeah! It rides pretty nicely, though I think it might be a little better with a front load. Plenty comfortable.

Anyone using a Thomson x2 stem atm? I have one of my all city and there seems to be a lot of creaking and slipping when I go over bumps or holes on the road at speed.
I have used grip gel and tighten up the bolts so much that it is pretty much on the verge of running the hex shape. I am worried about the bolts being shit, so I have ordered some ti bolts from ebay to hopefully resolve this issue, but is anyone having issues with this stem or is it just me?

- X2 are shit
- Ti bolts flex
- use loctite and correct torque wrench otherwise you run the risk of cracking the stem

+1 for uno. The decals come off in 5 sec with acetone. I have replaced the steerer, and two of the faceplate bolts with titanium ones and it has held up great with no slipping or creaking through some gnarly gravel and even singletrack so far. Good value and really lightweight.
You can never have to many rad 1" forks, came over this one earlier this week MX leader track.
