In my first attempt, I just cut thin stripes and wrapped it around the bars, as you can see in the photo below, it looked really gash since there were little fibers of the white mesh and the alcantara itself around the edges. I tried flaming the edges with a lighter but it didn't really help so I needed to come up with a new plan.
