I still have a walkman. Same one I got for christmas in 1999. My tapes sound a bit warped though.

Posh girlfriend of mine had a chrome Toshiba personal stereo I swear used Timelord voodoo to render it smaller than the cassettes it played.

I had something like that in the second half of the 90s, an aluminium Panasonic I think, lightspeed rewind and it would recognise gaps between songs so you could skip automatically 1, 2 or 3 songs. Too bad as soon I got that everybody started to get a cd player.

I went straight from Walkman to MD. Never made it to discman.

Still got a box full of minidiscs that I can't play anymore.

I had a D-EJ621 discman in an attractive lime/snot metallic green colour for much of the early 00s. Still one of the best-sounding portables I've owned, presumably because of the epic power of AA batteries and decent caps. One of the few school-age memories burned into my brain is being in London and purchasing a Tool album that I'd previously only listened to on my cheapo mp3 player and being completely floored by the experience.

got this with a copy of moseley shoals for my 14th bday in 96. It was a pretty big deal

Minidisc wasn't in competition with MP3, it was up against DCC. At least he didn't buy one of those.
