Brazing your own mounts or buying a set fork?
Have my own project with a G.Fischer, same idea. Doing a 1x8 though.
Subbed

He he. Following.

Steel disc forks should be easy to source no? Then braze a fuck ton of mounts on them.

started to cut and weld today, forgot my camera :(

Can't be all that different, just like getting a smaller bike

Subbed, just bought a 26" Trek to do the same kind of thing. Though I don't have access to welding :/

It turned out like this, just spot welded at the moment to see how it looks and have chance to feel the stearing before i weld it together proper.
I ran around in the garage and stearing feels great!
I will use these shimano tricolore cranks for the build, still 0£ spent on the project :)
Will also get two sets of used tires this week, maxxis 2.5" and some continental 2.4".

Picked up a set of 2.4" tires tonight, swapped them for a used tubular tire i dont need anymore.

I guess you need to weld 2 steerers together. Should put the bottom end of a quill stem in between the to for keeping it straight

Touring fork?

• #22
thats what i have done now, but it dont feel supersafe, its alot of stress on stearer tube :)

Another solution (which would involve changing the head tube out), would be to get some 1.125" steerer and sleeve it over the top of the current 1" steerer, that's what I've done when making cargo bike forks.
Nice project btw

Interesting thought this...
Kaffenback project is done and I'm very pleased with it so i need a new project for the winter.
This project will be on a super low budget and alot of DIY and welding.
I've looked around for a 90's steel mtb with longer headtube and yesterday i asked my landlord if there where any shitty bikes somewhere in the house i live in and i got this one for free :)
Asahi with double butted cromoly, good enough for this project.
My plans with the project.
Dropbars, 1x10 with barend shifter,
DIY racks rear and front with space for tent, sleeping bag and sleeping pad
Rad paint, mounts everywhere, fat tires!
Maybe discbrakes, have not decided yet.
Toptube have a big dent on the frame so i need to replace it, we have a crashed huge daccordi roadbike in the garage with headtube and toptube in good condition.
i really like the look with high headtube and sloping toptube on bikes like this, does anyone know what happens with the handling if i short the frame 2 cm with the same headtube angle as original?
i think something like this.
