Does anyone own a Canyon?

  • I was excited after seeing the blue colour way in the Ste_S's speedmax link, but women's only and not on the aeroad :(

  • I think there are still more models to be announced. Am very surprised to see no sram offerings on the aeroads. And there's no frameset offered either yet, nor the disc versions. Maybe good things are coming.

  • Brexit + the exchange rate plunge. Maybe euro for euro the prices have stayed the same, I dont know

  • Where are you getting that price from?! Assume you've got brakes and cranks lying around, eTap is barely more than a grand from Wiggle with platinum.

    This.
You mean you don't have a crank based power meter?

  • isn't there a rule about non-series components or something?

  • Rules are made to be broken

  • it looks to me like Canyon's pricing isn't moving that much but if it's a shock to you that they're now positioned as a premium brand: where have you been the last 3 years? In 2011 when I got my original CF the Aeroad was about £1,600 it's now £2,300!

A nice gesture yersterday with Purito's bike. I think this week we'll see pricing for the Utliamte Disc but the Aeroad Disc won't be out until next year. We'll see though...

  • End of season sale is ON.

  • Sigh, was a great sale price on the Aeroad 7.0 di2 but I was wavering between S and M (pretty sure the S is what I want). Both now out of stock overnight, disappointed with myself for not just moving on it.

  • I ordered a Canyon Commuter 5.0 without the discount. I complained when I saw the discount a week later and mailed them, they changed the price on my bill, quite good support if you ask me. Then I saw that they added some free stuff too (saddlebag, multitool) and I was like, wow, that is good service. Then I recieved another mail that they will sent it 5 weeks later. Meh, could be worse. I think they still have some delivery problems due to their change to SAP.

  • Checked the site a couple of times yesterday and the 2016 Aeroad SLX 7.0 di2 popped up as being available in S late in the day so I jumped on it. Im literally on the edge of their sizing but prefer a lower front end anyway so happy to go smaller. With the integrated cockpit the obvious concern is the inability to change the stem length but they claim that they can exchange the cockpit for a longer one once I have received the bike and given it a test. Ill probably book a proper fitting for shortly after I receive the bike to get some help on it.

Looking forward to the delivery date!

  • I'm 5'9" and ride a S 2015 Aeroad with 100mm stem. Make sure you order the Canyon Garmin out front mount as well for the integrated bars

  • A bike fitter is going to have a hard time fitting you to an aeroad as it has the integrated bar/stem combo and its not easy to just swap over a new stem and bars for the purpose of the fit as the steerer tube is oversized (1.5" I think?) so more than likely won't have stems that would fit sitting around.
You would better off getting your fit done before ordering this kind of bike IMO. Ask @HoKe !

  • ^ 1000% this!

  • Thanks for the heads up and I have been struggling with this to be honest. My current S5 doesn't allow me to achieve a low enough front end for what I want so doing the sizing on it and replicating on a new bike doesn't make sense. Obviously the integrated cockpit looks great but it is quite impractical from a fitting perspective and by the looks of it, many of the Movistar and Katusha riders actually use a tradional bar/stem setup.

The stem is 1 1/4" inch which is really only made by Canyon, Giant and Ritchey. I jumped on this frame due to the pricing (under £3k for di2 and Cosmic Pro Carbons plus just loving the look of the bike) but have it in my mind to take them up on the 30 day guarantee if I can't make the sizing work.

Any thoughts? Was also planning to speak to the fitter beforehand to try to find ways to make a session pratical. Maybe see if I can get something like an initial 30 min session just to see if frame size works and estimate a stem length to allow me to decide on the best setup/if it works at all and then get in for a full fitting once I am more preapred kit wise.

  • You'll make it work.

  • Just tested a Canyon Ultimate CF SLX and and an Endurance SLX Disc.

  • Nice place but I'll stick with Ti.

  • Checked out the range in Thursday. Endurance disc looks nice but had a slightly bent rotor which was rubbing.

What I can't understand is how they've changed their sizing. Looking at reach. The Ultimate has been lengthened around 20mm one 2-3 years while the aeroad is stupid long. When compared with the S5, new Foil and lots of others these bikes always seem to come up as the longest. Which is fine... Until you integrate the bars and stem.

I have ordered an Ultimate in TWO sizes smaller than my current one and it is still longer. I currently ride a 90mm stem as my fit specified. I too was told I could switch the bars out so I asked for a 90mm version, with a width of 44.

    Nope.

The 90mm version only comes in a 38 width. So I'm going to assume the 100 is a 40, the 110 a 42 and the 120 a 44. This means that the Aeroad is specced with a mammoth 543mm combined reach in the largest size. A full 5cm longer than my current setup. My ultimate is going to arrive with a 110 brining me around 2.5cm forward.

The fit is on their terms it seems.

  • I'm surprised they don't do them all 38 cm width as its more aero!

    But being srs, that sucks

  • Based on the website both the H11 and H36 cockpits have sizes of 90/390, 100/410, 110/410 and 120/430.

  • right, going to try to cable this up today. Anyone got an experience of cabling the mechanical version? Would like to know about use of cable inners in the frame, ferrules on the frame exit/entry points etc.

  • Just be patient with it, get the cable through all the way before pulling out the liners. You can pinch the liner with the cable inside and pull on the liner through stubborn bits. Cables with welded ends will make your life easier. Or pop some superglue on the tip of a cut cable.

    What did you go for?

  • What did you go for?

Silver Ultimate CF SLX, the Aeroad doesn't quite have the length I need in the seatpost and way too much reach. On the Ultimate I can run a size 58... such pro (for anyone reading who doesn't know me, I'm 6'6").
