  • It's not cheap EU labour they're worried about, it's expensive workers in Japanese banks.

  • Probably the bigger thing, yes.

But they also spell out that prices go up if labour costs goes up...something that's conveniently forgotten in the immigration debate.

Can't have it both ways, that's all.

  • For bi/tri-lingual candidates with accounting experience the pool of talent from the UK consists of chancers with a bit of schoolboy French.

  • So, Ken Clarke's constituency votes 'remain'. Clarke announces he will vote against pro-Brexit legislation. Andrew Bridgen says that Clarke should vote pro-Brexit because ...

"[...] The support he has locally in Rushcliffe delivered the only convincing remain vote in the whole of the east Midlands and as an east Midlands MP he should take that really on board. [...]"

I suppose it's debatable whether you should follow the vote in your constituency (many people think you should) or the overall result (many people think you should), but to say that Clarke should vote in accordance with the overall result in the whole of the East Midlands only strikes me as completely illogical.

  • Neither to me. That's like people saying NI should just go pro-brexit while it clearly voted remain.

What scope makes sense here? In case of Ni the first minister should be remain but an area that clearly voted out should maybe have a brexit vote from their mla? But then what about party lines?

    I honestly don't know :)

What is this guy on about with "We can't find engineers atm, but we can get engineers from Asia".

Yeah, but if that's hard that's not the fault of the EU, but of the UK immigration rules right? (or did I misunderstand...?)

  • I suspect the astonished brexitters have implemented a 'monolith' policy.
Continue to shout 52:48, ignore the demographics, especially the 16-18 year olds who were denied a vote about their future, (Interest to be declared, mespilus jr is not 16 until later this month), keep telling remainers to 'Shut up', despite serial career-long non-achievers like john Redwood bleating about the EEC/CM/EU for seemingly 40 years and refuse to engage with any serious questions about the probable outcomes.

A Tory grandee like Kenneth Clarke, (even if he was a peddlar of cigarettes for BAT to 3rd world children), stating he will oppose brexit on the basis of his local electorate re-emphasises that the Tory party has been split on 'Europe' for a couple of generations, and the referendum could never heal this rift, (or suppurating ulcer for added vehemence).

There is a good debate to be had on the scale of 'localism', (site that waste incinerator in the next ward/constituency, etc), but not under the guise of the referendum result.

  • "The blue passport is a symbol of our independence as a strong, proud nation."

    Christ.

  • Can't they print a union jack and bulldog on it? Just go the whole hog :p

  • I'd like Farage's face to be on the front, and then each page should have a Cameron/Pig watermark.

  • I assume it will be like a musical card and play GSTQ when you open it.

Another thing everyone has been warned for.

Everyone got pissed off about the EU negotiating TTIP in private, documents were leaked, big massive fuss, France said no in the end.

    Sovereignty innit?

  • Jean-Claude Juncker

“We Europeans can never accept Polish workers being beaten up, harassed or even murdered in the streets of Essex,”

    https://www.theguardian.com/world/2016/sep/14/juncker-european-unity-brexit-vote-eu

Interesting that he's calling out Essex directly rather than England in general ... it helps re inforce my ill educated views of Essex.

I grew up in Essex. Your illeducated views and my welleducated views are likely identical. If Essex was a dog, you'd shoot it.

  • Not lovely rural north Essex with all the tractors? And them ponds in Finchingfield tho, surely? And what about Audley End House? That's nice.

  • basically Saffron Walden =/= Harlow

  • Shoot it. In the face.

  • Harlow

    Shoot it. In the face

    Yes

  • This made me lol.

  • Another interesting perspective:

There always has to be a funny bit in there somewhere, and this is the one that made me laugh:

“In some cases we are just seeing relief that the sky did not fall in on June 25. It’s not helped by John Redwood going round saying ‘look, it’s all turning out well.’”

  • Wow.

[Edit] Actually, the whole thing. Wow.

  • but wait... there's more!
