tbh, either is fine.I go the opp way to edmonton green from croydon and use the a10 pretty much. Some days I turn at seven sisters/finsbury park/camden for change of route.
you can turn at finsbury park to go toward highbury and islington, into angel, through clerkenwell up to covent garden and down to victoria. or down the a10 and take the cs1 to old street

I'm moving back to Herts in a couple of weeks and will be aiming to continue commuting into Victoria. Should be about 28 miles each way. I've done it before, but it was before the Embankment CSH.
I think I'll be coming down through Broxbourne, Cheshunt etc and then down the old A10 through Tottenham etc. Am I best off heading towards Seven Sisters/Camden/Regents Park rather than heading straight down through the city and around Embankment? Any alternatives?
