Where can I build a bike?

Posted on
  • Just moved to Cambridge from Edinburgh. I've got no tools but all the parts!! trying to find a DIY space on that website Google but can't find shite. Isn't Cambridge bicycle capital??

  • What tools do you need?

  • I've managed to get nearly everything that isn't too expensive - so missing a bike maintenance stand and a truing stand

  • Afraid I've never owned either of those, it's quiet on here at the moment but now you've mentioned what you haven't got then someone might be along

  • And yes a lot if bikes in cambridge

  • No worries, yeah there were two options (one being completely free) for borrowing tools and workspace with volunteers that helped out in Edinburgh - just find it really strange that nothing of that sort exists here. Closest I found was Wondergears but that's had to close

  • Sounds like you need MakeSpace Cambridge - http://makespace.org

Otherwise, Primo Cycles on Jesus Lane.

  • We used to have a bike coop on Newmarket Rd that would have been the ticket...sadly it's now being developed into luxury apartments (you'll notice this is a theme in Cambridge).

If makespace doesn't do it for you, post what tools you're after and maybe someone on here can help you out! In terms of shops, http://bicycleambulance.com/ is the place most geared towards fixies as far as I know.
