I think once you've had Your carbon bike on a plane, or even the turbo, its a bit of an unknown.

I haven't even done a 18!
-
• #14254
Yeah, but you are old and slow.
Oh..
-
• #14255
Won't fill mine in as this year has been kinda embarrassing.
-
• #14256
Do all discs wom equally?
-
• #14257
Nope
-
• #14258
Nope. For example I would assume a Zipp sounds different to a Hed being that they're constructed differently, with Hed using a carbon skin over a spoken wheel, and Zipp discs are a honeycomb core construction I believe.

Bah, I suspected as much. Was very disappointed when I got my first deep carbon roads wheels (American Classics, which I think were oem Zipp honeycomb rims) and found they were near silent.
Why there isn't a dedicated channel for sound comparison on YouTube, I just don't know.

Ghiblis sound the best. My older Zipp isn't particularly loud unless you cant it over.

I almost pulled the trigger on a PX disc that came with an axle for both road and track . Now not available. Does anyone else make these?
-
• #14262
Who you are trying to impress?
I always thought my ffwd disc (for sells BTW ;-)) was near silent until I rode down a walled road where the wom was reflected back at me. Most discs seem louder to other people than they will to you.

Get yourself a Zipp 900 with the flip flop hub and some of these?

Cheers!

My Zipp 900 makes pedestrians jump when I ride over to club TTs. At 30mph it produces a fantastic noise - loud enough to justify the expenditure.
-
• #14267
You can hear it yourself? My comete makes an alright womble but as soon as I'm going faster than walking pace the noise is too quiet and behind me.
-
• #14268
Yeah, even with the helmet squeezed against my ears, but only when I'm really motoring - 30mph-plus. You should ask for a refund. :-)

And well within the 3cm rule.

Who was that, then?

Marcin Bialoblocki.
Yeah. People are iffy about crashed carbon, but I figured how many times have I seen people drop/crash their own bikes and get back on with nothing more than a cursory glance. And my thinking is a TT frame should get an easy life...low miles, reasonable roads, steady state riding. Not like I'll be throwing at a 50mph potholed descent down a mountain.
I've looked it over and it seems great, the marks on it are way less of deal than was made out, barely through the top coat.
