Top work!
I've done that route in reverse, it's bloody tough. More so when you've just done the the classic route down, and you forgot to check if the trains home were running, and they're not...

Awesome, Our trips must have overlapped! We were camping just out of both Briançon and Bourg-d'Oisans. Got the télégraphique up the mountain from Vaujany.
Was 30+ deg every day for all the time we were there. Lovely mountains and big blue skies.
Best riding weather ever. Rode Alpe d'Huez, Lautaret/Galibier, Izoard, Sabot and Croix de Fer/Glandon.So good - Take me back!

Thanks again all, it was 'sort of' fun! It was right on my limit fitness/stamina wise but now I know whats in store better I'm going to try the Dartford/London/Brighton trek soonish. At ~75-80miles that'd be my longest ride ever in all my 51 years.
Good luck with that bonkers Ditchling ride Gio, I wont be joining you on that one just yet!!! :)

Super proper weekend ride yesterday, none of this mid-week shenanigans... cycled to our daughters (BatFace) house down nr Guildford in Surrey. Perfect conditions, had the entire day to get there too so I thought I'd create a new ride, 'The Thames Tickler', where you try and tickle the soft southern underbelly of the Thames as much as possible before hunger and need for a pee (I'm in my 50's don't forget... stop sniggering at the back!) dictated a central Lundun diversion. Refreshed and heading westwards..., I then came across road closures EVERYWHERE! Duh, that'll be the big cycling event in Lundon you bluddy wally FOMOAF, great day to try and cross the West End (ya tit). Managed to get across the course at Regents Street (thanks nice understanding Security peeps) and then mashed it (correct term?) all the way through to Putney Bridges then continued the tickles round to Weybridge then down the Wey Navigation and then Basingstoke Canal. Ace fun, 66 miles on the SS bike and I've busted the B67 on the Fixie, oops.

Quick 25 miles with a few hills, too tired to do 30+ as planned during the training ride. Did a further 15+ with hills running errands and meeting lady, work is dragging today

rode to and fro a ride with 70-odd old geezers on vintage bieks. me on the 'Black Champ', the Gazelle I used last year for L'Eroica. finally cleaned off about a kg of strade bianche mud the night before, changed the saddle, oiled the chain and it was good to go. Rainy start, but a rather nice day al in all!

Did my first Audax yesterday - the Rowlands RAAAmble. With it starting down the road from me in Surbiton, at 215km in length, with 2400m of climbing, across some of the most picturesque parts of the North and South Downs, it was rude not to.
Perfect weather, pub lunch, and cake stops, and some of the friendliest cyclists you'll ever meet - what a wonderful day out. Still had plenty in me at the end - I'm sure a 300k one would be manageable.
Must admit I felt a bit sore on the commute this morning though. I don't know how Steve Abraham can do it day in day out.....

I finally got a video together from when I became the first person to 'Everest' on a fixed gear back in May. Clips taken from a couple of different people as I didn't film much myself due to having a bigger task on my hands...

Easy 40 miles with dad, two 20 minute efforts at 180/190bpm. Top sprint of 34mph from standing, but another fucking sting. Cunt even left its ass needle in my neck

I've done a few rides this week, making the most of the last week off. I did a Phixxxeeee Phun Ride from Dirtfud to Grain Village via Allhallows and back on that blisteringly hot Thursday...
....which was actually 56.3 miles of quite hard work.
And then yesterday I cycled up to Lundun and back to meet my partner at the Imperial War Museum where she was studying for the day...
which was great until I got 'doored' at London Bridge by a passenger getting out of a car in stationary traffic without looking to see if there's a short hairy bloke on a bike in the Cycle lane coming up before doing so, kerrrrrrrruuuncheroonie....I slammed into the 5 Series BMW door and got thrown off the bike into the pavement. Wrist and Hip took a pounding and the brake levers had been forced round the bars a bit but my bell suffered spring carnage! I launched a full-on Lycra Lout stream of abuse at the eeejutt who splattered me, from their nervous shaking I think they got the message. Thank you concerned passer by x 2 who checked I was OK. I so I carried on the journey with the bell defunct cos I'm well-tough innit! :)
Cycling's fun!

I do enjoy your ride reports, FMOAF, but is there any chance of not using your own versions of placenames every time? The effect becomes a little diluted after a while. :)
Be careful with doorings. They often result in very serious injury. It's good to hear that you seem to be OK, but it's generally not wise to just ride away from an incident. I'm sure you've seen this, but just in case you haven't:

Anyway, keep them coming!

Drive down to Hafjell to chase some dry roads and new climbs.
I'm well out of shape after summer hols. So broke before the last climb on Saturday. But did it anyway.
Which meant I broke a bit after the first climb on Sunday. Then rode another 109km across the Rondane mountain scape hanging out my own arse (as my brother would say).
Worth it.
Saturday....

After a turbulent few weeks health wise I decided to take a mental health day, sent the little one off to childcare and started my weekend early on friday. Haven't done anything fruther than 50k for a long while, so rode out to McLaren Vale from Adelaide.
Beautiful weather, but very gusty and wind speeds up to 40kph.
I had good fun, but unfortunately a) completely mismanaged the food intake and b) didn't account for the headwind and the climbs back.
Made it to McLaren Vale quite hungry, the ate a too heavy portion there and started riding back already knackered and feeling slightly ill. I started climbing back up the first couple of lumps on the way back, got hit by a hard gust and completely hit the wall, even with a 40/40 ratio on the Wolverine. I decided I had enough and took the train back into town. 75ish k total (didn't track all of it) and a pretty good ride all together, but I have to work on my fuelling strategy and stamina. However it was a good step towards my goal of getting back up to regular 70 - 100k rides.
https://www.strava.com/activities/713890980
Then Sunday did an easy 40k flat ride with a friend who is a waaaaay stronger rider than me, even Everested recently. Same thing happened: Gusty headwind wind instantly stopped me in my tracks. But I did get out there, and it's becoming more and more regular.
Forgot to mention this on here, I was in Belgium over the bank holiday weekend.
Nice flatlands, too nice, too flat. I was bored of it after day 1 (which was also the least flat of the three scheduled.)
Took the train to Lille, then rode to Oudenaarde and Geraardsbergen from there.
Day two was from Geraardsbergen to Bruges via Ghent. The bit from Ghent to Bruges along the main cycle way on the canal is probably one of the most boring bits (50km) I have ever cycled.
Day three we were supposed to cycle back to Lille, but gf knee wasn't on the same page, so we ended up taking the train back.
Overall not too impressed with Belgium aside from magnificent cycling infrastructure, beer and chocolate.
