  • Has downloading disappeared off of anyone else's iPlayer app?

  • Is there some sort of app that turns your phone into a measuring tape? Plonk phone on wall, send out beam, measure time taken for reflection, care distance. That sort of thing?

  • Only if your phone comes with a built in laser beam...

  • You mean yours doesn't?

  • Smart Tools have distance thing and ruler

  • Well I've finally decided its time to hang up my S3 (only phone I have had since they first came out).

I like the look of the oneplus phones but not sure if i want to fork out the money to buy the 3, the one actually still looks pretty good but it seems that you can't get it anymore?

Any suggestions on a good solid phone? It needs to be black though but i think that's pretty standard these days. Ive had a read over the last 20 or so pages but nothing really stands out as buy me.

  • I'm on a Sony Z3 Compact now. I like it. I know it goes against all that vanilla Android shit but it's a fucking phone, I don't care if it's running Google's latest OS. All that usually means is Google has got rid of some app you liked and found a way to steal more of your soul.

I'm looking at you Latitude, Picasa, etc.

  • Yeah I'm not fussed on all what type of OS it runs as I will never fuck with it like that.

Just want a nice phone without much bloatware that I can use as an everyday phone. Ill check out the Z3.

  • I had a Oneplus One and bought a Oneplus 3 shortly after release.

The Oneplus One still worked, but was getting a little slow and... old, I guess (even running CM13 nightlies). The 3 is a significantly better phone. Much faster, no lag ever, no crashes at all - solid, stable phone with a better screen too. No regrets getting the 3.

  • My experience with a sony xperia z3 compact after two years of ownership is don't bother..

Loads of bloatware, crashes more now than it did. Waterproof feature no good when a side flap fell off after careful use.

I was looking at the Huawei P9 as a potential new phone, the Leica dual lens camera looks lovely but all reviews seem to say that the hardware degredation is noticeable after only 3 months of use and the battery life is poor.

I am resigning myself to the fact that there is no bloody phone out there I like! Ffs.

  • And this is the problem I've had about 5 years of trouble free phone using the S3 that I don't want to get one and it turns out to be crap. I do want something newer though.

I think I'm just going to have to go through alot of phone reviews and see what I like.

  • Ringke case arrived for my N5x, it's nice... Battery life is better than my old N5 but not loads better... I think it may be the PIA VPN that's draining lots of background power, will need to do a bit of investigating...

  • Loads of bloatware

    Most of which uninstalls.

crashes more now than it did

Too many porn apps will do that.

Waterproof feature no good when a side flap fell off after careful use.

I use the magnetic charge "port" so you don't need to open the flaps. Also, it proved to be more waterproof than my Garmin Edge 1000.

I like the smaller screen of the Z3, it's faster than the N5 and it has a better camera.

  • Yes, running a VPN full-time will use lots of power.

  • Z3 compact user - will buy Z3 compact again. Not any small androids out there with ok engine at Z3c price point.

  • Aldi were selling the S5 Mini here for AU$249... Crazy Price...

  • Yep, PIA drains a fair bit of battery. I only use it when connected to 3rd party wifi.

  • Can you automate that within the PIA app? I couldn't find anything like that in settings...

  • Too many porn apps will do that.

Not all of us have a raging midget porn addiction you know..

  • I don't think so. I rarely use wi-fi away from home (unlimited 4G) so it's not often an issue.

You could possibly do something with Tasker and Secure Settings, I think I tried but got bored. You need to be rooted to run it without a dialogue box I seem to remember.

  • I'll just have to do it manually, no root yet and Tasker seems quite complicated for a numbskull like me...

  • Z3 compact so cheap on ali http://s.aliexpress.com/RRZrU3a2

  • Would you trust people trust buying a phone off aliexpress though? They do have a lot of the oneplus range and at pretty decent prices. But how confident would you be on getting the real thing?

  • Side flaps from ali
