  • Just looking for something more powder friendly than the volkl mantras I'm riding just now. They're 98 underfoot, 184s, and absolute missiles, but would like a second pair that were there for the deeper days. The mantras are pretty good in pow but are basically a fat GS ski with a slight rocker. Quite fancy a pair of the candides, maybe the 3.0s.

Was flagging up the crazy cheap prices on freeze mainly. I'll probably hold off till next season.

  • Cheers mate.

I'll try to get something sorted this summer rather than spunk money away in resort.

  • @dan do you think the supernatural 100s are too wide for say if I was to take a trip with my newbie gf which involved only on piste? You mentioned previous in this thread that you're glad you took your Line's as well as your Black Crows, were these a more narrow Line?

  • 3.0's are nice, incredible flex pattern and I quite like the lightweight core in them. Makes a really good freestyle-ish floaty ski. If you want a dedicated pow ski though I'd go for something wider. The 4.0s or something like a shredittor, the extra surface area just makes skiing trees and deep stuff so effortless.

£158 mounted. probably a mistake but will see if it goes through..

  • There's no bindings as far as I can work out, that's a ski only price...I was tempted yesterday....

  • The buy package at the bottom goes through at £158 in my cart it says £158 with the griffin bindings

  • When I try to checkout it says this...let me know if you have better luck!

"Griffon 13 2016 (One Size w/ 110mm Brake, Black / White / Teal) is unavailable and it was removed from your cart."

  • yeah you're right.

  • Sorry, missed this. 100 is fine on piste - my Line's are 98 underfoot. £15something is an amazing deal. Definitely take a punt on them.

The Black Crows Corvus were amazing but are quite heavy as well as wider undefoot, they were hard work at the end of a long day. It was just good to have some easier skis for a day here and there when the snow wasn't as good.

  • Take the rocker into account when you work out the length though, you can normally go a bit longer.

  • Tempted here as well - such a bargain though they're not really what I need.

  • I went for BC Camox in the end, free delivery and 15% off from glisshop over the weekend

  • Anyone ski'd in norway before?

  • Skied in Northern Sweden near Kiruna - wouldn't go again

  • Any reason why?

Trying to tie together a ski trip to my trip to northern coast norway..

  • @rogan
Pros - no queues, good snow, good food, reasonable prices.

Cons - compared to the alps/ north america the terrain is really limited both in terms of area and features (wide flat groomers everywhere and not much else), lifts weren't the best (mainly t-bars and double chairlifts).

We went mainly for the northern lights, reindeer, dogs sleds, snowy lifestyle etc and that was excellent. The skiing was a good addition to the trip but one full day was plenty.

I think the resort was called Narvik but can't be sure.

  • This is kind of what I'm going for actually.

Trying to tie in skiing to northern lights on a budget, GF never ski'd before and only planning 3 days of skiing so even if I get a little bit bored its not a huge amount of skiing...

    Thanks a lot!

  • Winter is coming!

  • Well I live here and ski loads over Winter.

I'm on the west coast. Where the gulf stream bring mild weather over Winter. So while we get loads of snow. It turns to shit pretty quickly. The resorts where I am are pretty basic too. Further South east both the centres and the snow improves.

Last Winter was insane though. Ice and rain one day. Shit tons of powder the NeXT.

ED: this is Smallfurry BTW. Log in gone a bit mad.)

  • Thanks!
So which resort would you recommend for late January?

  • Where you going to be?

Its a fecking long country. I know. I cycled it.

Best time of year is easter. Up here it will be Cold and possibly icy late jan. Down towards Kvittfjell it'll be more stable. I was there a year ago. Had some great slopes.

  • Well we're definitely staying 4-5 nights in Tromso, but we are also happy to fly to Oslo and head to a resort from there and fly back out of Oslo... or do it basically any way round recommended.

Goal is 3 days of actual skiing..

  • Probably cheaper and shit loads easier to do that. Getting to my area (Sunnmøre) will involve flying via Oslo anyway. Driving in the Winter will take forever, and I wouldnt recommend a turist drive that far on the Winter roads anyway.

  • Just booked a three week mega holiday. One week Zermatt, one week Saas-Fee and a skip across the pond for a week in Banff. Now for just over two months of thinking about nothing apart from being in the mountains.
