Interesting .. quite leaning towards Hylex vs R785 (with RS805) in that case .. cheaper and lighter, would just need the Di2 kit and follow their video
.If I have a flat mount frame would I need this adaptor to use a post mount caliper?

yes
I think the weight 352g pr lever+caliper is accurate. I have the real weight written down somewhere... will find it
The lever housing is long and I think a round drop bar + 1-2cm shorter stem is a better setup than compact bars. So the hands in the drops matches the hoods position better. But I have not tried it yet. Still on compact bars
Example of newish round bars Pro vibe 7s:

Buys flat mount frame, wants to use adaptor... #notsureifserious

The hylex lever weighs 216 grams
Shimano r785 is 255 grams
But the new dura-ace one (left, ST-r9170) should be only 180grams. :)

Thats not a lot tbh .. plus the Di2 kit and SW-R600 add £120 on top for Hylex making it just £80 cheaper .. might just stick to R785 and RS805 combo then. How is hylex plus shimano flat mount caliper working for you?
ST-r9170 costs £470 each!

This question was asked a lot earlier upthread, but not conclusively answered; would a 140mm rotor be OK to use up front on a fixed commuter that's unlikely to be descending a mountain anytime soon?
-
• #2283
If you are a gifted descender I'd start at 160mm
If you are lithe fixeh skiddr who only resorts to real brakes when things get sketch, go 140mm.
-
• #2284
Thanks. I think I tend more towards the latter category, though certainly not one for radical fixeh skidz (unless in the wet, obvs).

Right, need some input.
I'm gonna convert my Elephant NFE into a flat bar off road tourer with MTB tyres.
I always fit the Shimano Alivio M445 on customer's bike whose brakes are not worth overhauling/cheaper than replacing the mechanical calipers, and they always felt nice and strong, but I'm doubtful it'll be fine off road in the Pyrenees, I'm liking the M445 because they're massively cheap on trade.
Worth going for? or better off buying the more expensive SLX M675?
-
• #2286
Deore M615? Basically the same as SLX and even takes finned pads if you're expecting hard braking.
Better than the above IMO with 2 fingers actuation, adjustable reach (with an Allen key instead of a nob on SLX) and the caliper bleed port is vertical instead of horizontal.

Im just going to say, I just got some SLX, and they are bloody fantastic, im sure the M615 (which were out of stock at the time) are equally as good.

What's wrong with BB7 now Ed?
They need an experienced mechanic to set them up properly...
-
• #2291
They're on my carbon road bike, no point in getting BB7 if you can get a pair of hydraulic brakes for less than a single BB7 calipers.
-
• #2293
Anyone want a pair of these?
New, unused SRAM Guide R - four pot trail brakes including rotors.

Done plenty of court side set up with little or no fuss. Practice makes perfect innit!

hope coming in with twin pot road calipers

no flat mount tho
-
• #2298
Yeah I'm torn with those Hopes, I've got flat mount rear, post front so either way I'm gonna be mismatched. Was thinking of going 160mm Hope Rotors in the future anyway so would need a bracket on the rear so it's not a big deal to get a post mount adapter instead, just seems a bit archaic going from flat to post nowadays.
Not that it really matters, I suppose if I do go with Hope calipers they'll be matching regardless of the mount type.

Is that grub srew in place of a bleed nipple.
So you have to spend more ££ to bleed them.
-
• #2300
If thats the sram version it's always been a grub screw. Hopefully they'll do a nipple on the shimano ones.
Yes
