  • There's something about those orange planet oceans that's deeply satisfying.

  • I'm looking for an everyday diver style watch for work that I won't mind getting a beating at around £150, anything better than an SKX007 out there?

  • Nope :)

Well, there's the new turtle that is similar to the SKX but with a better movement with hand winding and hacking. I prefer the shape of the SKX though.

  • Thanks for the info, I've got a PADI Turtle on order but don't fancy getting it bashed up at work.

  • Day 2 with the Nomos Club.

It's a lot more smart and less sporty than I anticipated. This isn't a bad thing, I have several sports and tool watches, and it goes well with casual clothes as well as work. This flexibility, along with the size (36mm) and its twentieth century styling (including a raised, domed sapphire crystal that evokes an old plexi), put me very much in mind of a 1016 Explorer, even though they have several obvious differences in appearance.

The size. 36mm watches are having a bit of a renaissance at the moment, and now I get it. It's the smallest watch I've worn in 3 decades, and it looks and feels great on my 7" wrist. I like the restraint and elegance of a smaller watch.

Overall, really happy with it. Here's a keyboard shot, since I neglected to include one yesterday:

  • Very elegant, great choice...

  • This is really nice. Been looking at explorer-ish watches recently and this totally slipped under my radar.

The fact they make the Orion doesn't exactly make it an easy choice. All their stuff is on point though...

  • Rolex must revisit the 1016, I'd gladly wear one every day for the rest of my life if the price wasn't silly... Never, ever gonna spend £10k on one...

Even a 36mm Tudor Ranger would do me fine... In the meantime... ;)

  • Been looking at explorer-ish watches recently and this totally slipped under my radar.

It's a real shame they don't make the 36mm Club 'Dunkel' (dark) model any more. In a way I'm glad I didn't have the choice, as I'd have ended up with yet another dark-faced watch, and the silver dial is beautiful.

  • Rolex must revisit the 1016

They won't, though. They are leaving all the heritage reissue stuff to Tudor, and from their point of view, the Heritage Ranger and the new Black Bay 36mm have that sewn up.

I agree, it's a sin to leave a design like the 1016 on the shelf.

  • I know, and Tudor are busy messing around putting different dials on different cases, making perfectly good models bigger and driving me mad in the process... Bit of an overstatement but you know what I mean... :)

I'd like to see a Tudor Sub and a 36mm Ranger, won't happen tho'!

  • @radar Lovely Nomos, not too busy but not too stark.

I really really like the Tudor BB 36mm and would consider a purchase if it had the in house movement, even with an unproven track record.

  • Despite being cheap and battery powered, this is probably my favourite watch that I own. Love the corrugated dial design.

  • I was after some advice if any of you could help me? This was my great grandfathers watch, which I got of my mum after my grandmother died a few years back. It hasn't worked in a long time, the second hand has fallen off, but is still inside the casing. Have been meaning to get it fixed for ages, but has kept slipping my mind. Was wondering if anyone could recommend someone who may be able to repair it? Preferably in London. Cheers.

  • That's nice. Hamilton & Inch still exists in Edinburgh and sell very high end watches. Is there a case back which you can remove on this watch? Would be interested in knowing what movement was fitted.

For repair shops, the usual suspects in London should be fine - Alsal, etc. I'd maybe find out what the movement is first though.

  • Rolex on the 40mm boat...

  • The Rolex sports/divers have always been 40mm? Though there was a 35mm version of the yacht-master too.

  • Getting fed up with my cheapish seiko (jap movement) automatic losing time.

If I wanted an automatic that will keep perfect time, what should I get?
Don't want a rolex. Just something bombproof.

    CWC?

  • If I wanted an automtic that will keep perfect time, what should I get?

A quartz. No mechanical watch will keep perfect time, although it's possible yours could be adjusted to keep better time. How much loss are we talking?

  • Maybe 5 minutes a week. Ish.
