On first impressions it looks good, until the eye hones in on the details and the familiar Nob aesthetic reveals itself: "gilding the lilly" with bells, whistles and er... knobs on (and anything else too much money can buy).

Do you two have the same crack dealer, or did you post these here by accident whilst looking for the "conclusive evidence that matchy-matchy is a certain way to fuck-up a nice frame" thread?
Appalling.
Just appalling.
Really, just terrible.

Admittedly the bottechia would look a lot better with plain white bartape and saddle and a silver seat post, not sure why it didn't bother me initially. Other than that I really like it, it's nice to see a bottechia with a mavic group instead of the usual c-record and unlike many others I like the modolostyle brake levers.
That somec on the other hand looks horrible imho cause it looks like somebody just threw a bunch of money at it without having a coherent theme for the build.
ed: btw apparently I'm not the only one who likes the bottechia: http://www.retrobike.co.uk/forum/viewtopic.php?f=23&t=349401 -

Ha!
The frameset is spectacular, but the build is horrible and trying to match the tape to the headset to the decals was a fools errand.
Coloured tyres might have saved it though...

Yes, love the Mavic and the Modolo.
But the tape, saddle and cages kill it: too busy and distract from the frame.

I agree about the bartape & saddle but I don't mind the cages. The yellow valve caps are unneccessary, too. But still, calling it terrible and appalling is an undue exaggeration imho. The saddle is still a flite and the angle is fine, the bars are wrapped accurately and the overall build proves that the builder paid a lot of attention to little details. If you havent you should really check out the details of the frame since it's a columbus MS Bottechia equipe and the level of detail is second to none. That Somec on the other hand, with the brooks saddle and the bar angle fail and those horrible golden shamals is something else...
Amazing bike, no doubt! Please get more pictures of his collection and upload them somewhere on here if the owner doesn't mind. Running a single chainwheel and keeping the front mech on is a bit of a fail ;)
