Thanks, I am looking at 28mm + rim brakes (im sure discs are the way to go but not yet)- will it fit with their guards?
-
• #7303
Same frame and materials used across the Defy range. So no difference in comfort or ride quality, only difference is stopping in the wet. Wasn't suggesting you get the disc model, more a comment on the frameset. Not sure 28s n guards are possible, I used sks raceguards xl, clip on jobs.

Oh yeah. Quick search suggests 25s with guards. I might just sneak 2 purchases

Just thinking out loud, but I'm considering consolidating my commuter and racer into one ultimate do-it all bike. I currently have a Planet X London Road with 11 speed Sram Rival, Spyre Discs, 35mm tyres, Fulcrum Racing Sport wheels, full guards and rack (weighing at least 12kg) and a Canyon Roadlite with DA c24 wheels and 10 speed Ultegra 6700 (just under 8kg).
In a nutshell I'd want something as practical as the PX, as light as the Canyon and better quality than either. It will be used for commuting most days, as well as longer and faster rides at the weekend.
I guess in a perfect world I'd want something Ti or steel, carbon fork, ~28mm tyres, full guards, hydro discs, SRAM Force 22 and maybe some carbon wheels for the weekend and something more bomb-proof the rest of the time. At this stage I'm just trying to work out what all the frame options are. I don't think I can afford/face waiting for anything custom, so just any good OTP recommendations for frames to look at would be much appreciated, along with any particularly light/high quality parts I should consider.

Any thoughts on the giant propel. Ive convinced myself 2 bikes are better than 1. Im getting defy 0 with the plans to run 28s on them. Or 25cs with guard. Something for fun. 2.5 years since i last rode properly. Did 27.5miles the other week. Fitness poor but felt gd

carbon wheels will be pretty bomb proof, and as you have disc brakes will not be worn out through riding.
there are loads of manufacturers, you need to decide on budget and what you want the frame to have (mudguards, rack...)
then find the one that fits you best. contact points and tyre pressure will probably have the greatest impact on comfort.
am not sure i'd want a carbon bike for commuting as i'd not feel comfortable having to lock it up (more other fuckwits bashing the top tube by accident). high end steel is nice but relatively delicate, which would lead me to a ti frame.
you then pay for the quality of the titanium used and how worked the tubes are (butting/plain gauge) but of course this will not be as light as a carbon frame
right now invest in some decent wheels and see how much the planet x improves

Yup, yesterday which cause the server they're using went into a meltdown.
The Zero Disc defintely look great.

All a bit meh, mostly same bikes with new paint jobs and a huge price hike in some instances of frameset (Datum esp).

I want carbon wheels for upcoming ti disc mega distance machine but i weigh 90kg and will be taking luggage at least some of the time. Is having carbon silly?
edit: because carbon looks betterer
-
• #7314
Won't be silly, as long there's enough spokes.
-
• #7315
Carbon will be great.
Defo put a couple extra spokes on. Just incase you break one on you mega distances.

A few deals around at the moment - thoughts on last years Equilibrium disc 3 as a fast tourer, winter trainer, over the top commuter?
-
• #7317
Current alu winter bike recommendations? I fear I've missed some of the better deals - as per usual only massive sizes left.

Ribble or Dolan or Canyon?

BareNecessities in reply to @prevailrob
Im selling a 52cm CAAD12.. Loads of clearance if you can deal with no mudguard mounts
-
• #7322
Guste mounts essential, I'm afraid
-
• #7323
No synapse disc with Alu frame please, unless it's full hydraulic, the brakes always gonna feel like crap.
Mudguard clearance is small, O.K with 25mm, very tight with 28mm.

Want a cheapish road bike to use when I'm back in the uk at my folks.
Does anything come close to the Verentis that Wiggle sell? £500 quid for new Tiagra and RS10 wheels. Or 400 for Sora and Alex wheels.
I could go second hand but I don't want the hassle of getting it serviced and they live out of a major conurbation so PITA to find something they can collect.

Decathlon probably have something.
