  • I recently got my hands on a steamroller, and while I'm enjoying it, I can't help but feel like my cross-check (currently relegated to parents garage) will do the fixed gear winter bike job better - bigger tyres and better brakes.
Agreed that a cross-check fork would be a good improvement for mounts and braking, but what effect would the longer a-c have?

  • I'd looked at different fork options with a 32c tyres (26 trucker/straggler are disc only, 26 trucker probably too short for guards) and done some maffs...

  • I'm sure the straggler fork would handle just fine

  • The CC is far more suited to winter duties. I did like riding my CC as SS for a few months - but since it was built up for audax and touring originally - Guards, rack and stand - seemed overly heavy for a 7 mile commute. So I put 10sp group back on it - and decided not sell the Roller. Roller is great for just the summer months, been having a blast the last couple of months. Quite happy to leave it shed from November to February.
