No, I did Cotswolds last year and although I really liked it and would highly recommend it, the one in Ely won out as it's near my parents house so they can come and cheer me/laugh at me/buy me ice cream afterwards.
Not sure I remember how to swim.
Sleeping in my wetsuit is a brilliant idea!!!!

Highlight of yesterday's race - my mum thought the run was 4 laps instead of 5 (to be fair, so did I, I was seriously pissed off when I did the maths on lap 3) and when she couldn't find me in the finish zone after lap 4 she sent out the marshals out looking for me - so they were all radioing each other with my position. Thanks mum.

I am seriously contemplating entering the ballot for Norseman next year and possibly a half iron in July. Contemplating it so much it keeps me up at night. like now.. The ballot for Norseman doesn't open up until late October anyways so there is still time to decide (even though it felt like I've made the decision already). And even if I do enter, there are usually over 2000 entries and only 250 spots so chances are slim.

Go for it then, enjoy. Keep us posted too...

If you ever want to do norseman then definitely enter. The chances of getting a slot in the ballot are very slim, but they are getting worse each year. They now have a weighted lottery system whereby each time you fail in the ballot you get an extra ticket for next year's ballot. It's still a random draw, but it means that someone who enters 2 years in a row is twice as likely to get a slot as a first time entrant, and a third time entrant is 3x as likely etc. If you miss a year, or you get a slot then you go back to square one.
Norseman is on my bucket list. It's frustrating because I actually got a slot years ago when there were only about 350entrants for 250 places. I had been put on a reserve list and got my place when someone else pulled out. However they took so long to tell me that I'd already entered imat and booked flights accommodation etc.
I've tried a couple of other times over the years but with so success. I don't particularly want to race in 2017, i have other plans, but the new entry system means I can't afford not to enter.

Have my on and only tri of the year next weekend.
I find myself dreading swiming in the North Atlantic in a wetsuit I cant breath in. As well as dreading running at pace on my dodgy achilles.
The bike leg will be on the local motorway which has just been relayed. Plus I feel really happy with my position on the tri bike. Going to be bonkeres fast.
....I really should just enter time trials. Tris are just an excuse to go for a swim on my rest days, or run in the Mountains when its raining.

Time = slow! Distance = middle.
The swim was entirely upstream but really nice and very pretty. The bike was literally the least enjoyable time I've ever spent on a bike, the fens were at their windy best. The run was pretty, went past the cathedral 5 times. -

I have a picture of me running past the cathedral but I can't seem to upload it. I actually look like I'm running so it must be early on.

Triathlon buffs, quick question. TT style bikes are often called tri-bikes and you can add tri bars to your set up, indeed in the two meagre triathlons I've raced, I've noticed several of the more elite folks with TT bikes and aero helmets, but in the Olympic triathlon everyone seemed to be on bog standard roadies.
Any reason for that?
-
• #1762
Olympic tri is draft legal. You're not allowed to draft on real tris.

• #1763
Ah, of course. Seems rather obvious now. Cheers!

Gonna stick some clip on aerobars on my roadbike for a ride tomorrow. I'll probably take a while to get the position right but are there general rules of thumb for these? Saddle/stem changes to accommodate, etc?
-
• #1765
Don't ask triathletes for bike fit or aerodynamic advice is probably a good place to start....

Two tips from me 1) Slam your saddle as far forwards as possible 2) watch all of this guy's videos .

This might have been discussed earlier, but does anyone know of a way to properly upload logged pool swimming workouts to Strava? I have a Suunto Ambit3 Sport watch, and when it syncs to Strava it says "0 meter distance", "0 seconds moving time" etc. I'm guessing this has something to do with no GPS coordinates and Strava is freaking out because of it.. As of now I am creating manual entries but its quite annoying to not see all the data.

Forerunner 920xt
Pool swims I add manual entries. Open water I upload the .fit file.
Strava sucks at good interpretation of pool swim data.

How's IM training going?

Local tri on Sunday. Sprint distance.
I can run at decent 5km pace without my wonky legs exploding.
I have gotten back into swimming inmy wetsuit.
I've put a Nice bit of time into riding in the tri bike position. But the Autumn storms have arrived, Its been raining sideways for a week, the sea is fecking freezing, and the road the bike leg on is Coastal (ie. might be mad windy).
I find myself totally demotivated.
I Guess once I'm in the water Things can only get better........

Ha. Haha. Hahahahahahaha.
I've run about 40km in total since June. Swum quite a bit (including open water) and cycled an ok amount, but all way down on what I wanted to have done. Training and summer holiday parenting don't mix (and I don't do the selfish arsehole role).
Down from my original 89kg to 83kg and then back up to 88kg.
I know I can do the swim, I know I can grind out the cycle, I just have to get through the 'run' at the end.
Now expecting ~15h30m (1h15, 8h, 6h) so goal is just to finish. Will worry about a time some other year.
-
• #1773
Ah you'll get there. I'd complete it, however slowly, if only to make the most of the entry fee...
(and I don't do the selfish arsehole role).
Ha, I think I have the same problem. All my "training" at the moment consists of eeking-out the commute distance without it impacting on family. Can't see myself doing an IM/equivalent distance tri anytime soon. Mid probably on the cards next year now I've sorted myself out with a geared TT bike...

I'm thinking about taking a level 2 qualification in tri coaching and developing the next generation of Brownlees & Stanford's / mamils.
Have any of the forum done any tri qualifications?
My slight concern is a new baby is due in January and the course assessment is in March.....is this qualification going to take up lots of my nappy changing time?

2008 ish I did L1, fairly straightforward but only allowed delivery of limited content no scope to develop until L2.
Couldn't count other sports coaching quals as prior learning but glad they didn't tbh as had no swim background then.
L2 seems alot more involved, but allows you to get creative.
Has probably changed lots since then.
are you doing the Cotswold one?
have a few clubmates doing it (and one who flounced out a few weeks ago!)
if its cold you could just put your wetsuit on and then save time getting ready in the morning!
