Just back from a trip to New Orleans, AJ's seemed to be the popular shoe over there. I know little about them and other than the classic AJ1 I never really liked the look of them either but I took a few pics anyway as they seem well regarded on here. Lots of NMD's on display but no one wearing them.
Seeing as this is primarily a cycling forum I should mention there does seem to be a small fixed gear scene, more ladies than men from what I saw. The bike of choice for the everyday rider is a cruiser style frame with single speed and coaster brake, which suits the flat terrain and hot humid weather perfectly.
A word on the Nike chalapuka shoes too, really comfy all day and no sweaty end result that you get with rifts or roches.

Bryan Robson was wearing them back in '82 nd I had some in late 80's...studs and astro turf
