Picked this frame up recently, undecided how to build it up. Had a 105 5800 groupset lined up but sale fell though . Any suggestions ? Think this force chainset and carbon fork would look great with it for a monochrome build.

That chainset and just some Apex/Rival bits will still look killer.

Then spend the rest of the budget on carbon wheels. Obvs

I picked up a medium 1998 Caad4 F1000 MTB yesterday :)

Needs work, headset is grindy, I may have to service the fork (give me strength), the front wheel is a POS that doesn't match but, the left coda crank is now a shimano600... it has a 9 speed Deore XT/LX mix, a lockable fatty D fork, some bubbling under paint but no dents etc.

Couldn't resist for £75 and wanted a wee project. n+1... :)

Fork boot looks woeful, hope no water has got in.

Otherwise you are lucky - that frame / fork has IS disc tabs. Frame looks in OK shape, too.

It goes up and down but squeaks a bit. The headset is gone very grindy so it probably hasn't been maintained for a while. I didn't see any holes in the fork boot so hopefully all good.

OK. Have you serviced a suspension fork before? Because a Cannondale Headshok is not the place to start...and without the special and pricey tools, you won't be able to do it. And even with the tools it will be agony.

Even the headset bearings are a massive chore. Much hammer. So much whacking. Wow.

But there is hope. Does the lockout work? Does the fork cycle smoothly? Is there an air valve under the fork crown?

The squeaking might be air in the oil damper...or it might be corrosion..or if the fork is coil sprung with an elastominer it might be its dying gasps.

First step is to nip - carefully! - the zip ties on the boot, pull it down to the fork crown and see what delights await...

Procedure is the same - open the top, pull out the damper and spring, service 'em, service the 'scope, rebuild (if you can be bothered)

I'll try CRC first their mechanics are surprisingly good and into MTB stuff.

There's a German cannondale page that has the boots in yellow....24euros though O_o

They will tell you to replace the fork with a Reba or something.

Unless one of them is a Cannondale nut they will not have the know-how or the tools. They will probably break something replacing the headset bearings.

Which bottom bracket cable guide will work for caad5? According to interwebz shimano one does not fit.

Does anyone know anything about these 'Hollowgram' wheels that Cannondale are flogging with their new bikes?

Avoid...for the time being. At least the disc ones anyway. Silly hub/disc compatibility.
