  • Definitely in for 24th, and providing my course doesn't fall on the October weekend count me in for that one too!

  • Excellent. I'll try to vary the route a bit between the two rides.

  • I am going away that weekend now. Scratch me off for the 24th.

  • I'll move you to the 1st, if you've no objections?

  • I'm also not making the 24th but definitely making October.

  • Just finishing my new bike now, a Singular Gryphon

I think I just read something from you on the Thorn forum? ( a great source of info for Rohloff hubs ). Always liked Gryphons. Look forward to seeing it :-)

  • Went for a ride last night, very dry, very fast conditions, great fun.

  • That looks ace! Must be a fair bit lighter now :-)

How do you like the ride, without any suspension?

  • So much lighter, will weigh it shortly. I honestly didn't miss it for the kind of riding i was doing. I'd imagine there are times in the winter when it's useful when the place gets really rutted.

  • will weigh it shortly

    Mine is 15.4 kg

  • Maybe I should have got the saddle with the titanium rails.

  • Realise the inner weenie

  • That looks lovely! Never seen those tyres before, but like the look of em too.

  • They're perfect until autumn then after that they might as well be slick.

  • They're perfect until autumn then after that they might as well be slick.

I'll expect to see them still on there at 'Autumn Radness II' then.

  • @BareNecessities, yep that's me. tis a good source of info for R hubs.
Think I need new 16tooth sprocket as its quite nosey, the hub needs a service and if I can I'll get my drop one then it's complete, it'd on flats at the mo'
    Cheers

  • I know there's a lot variables but here goes, I've just put 2.1 VRedstein Black Panthers on my bike with regular tubes and I'm 11 stone. What sort of pressures approx. should I been running?
    Cheers

  • Many variables, as you say, but I reckon you could start with 35 psi rear and 30 psi front and go from there.

I expect you could easily get away with less at that weight :-)

  • Nice one @BareNecessities I appreciate it. I'm going to try and get out on it a few times before then so will test those pressures.
    Are you running a Rohloff?

  • Take a pump with you and have a play! If it gets squirmy, put a couple of dabs in......
I was up the forest today.....it is so dry, the trails have a sand-like quality to them. I, however, had a jelly like quality to my legs.....absolutely nothing in the tank and legs of lead. I think I failed to regulate my temperature early enough, and bonked after about them miles......I still managed 55 though. Albeit very slowly.....
I got scalped by a bloke on the way back as well.....that just simply never happens! I was cruising along the towpath at about 17-18mph and really struggling, but refusing to accept I was shit today, when I got a chirpy 'ding, ding' from behind....the bugger flew past me with no effort and proceeded to pull a few fucking bunny hops! My shit-legged manflu was temporarily forgotten and I put the hammer down......I was flat out at about 26-27mph, but he was still pulling away.......I caught up with him near broxbourne, where I saw the battery for the electric motor, strapped to the down tube! Bastid!! /0)

  • Are you running a Rohloff?

Yep, that's right. Haven't had it for very long, so should really get used to using it off-road before these rides.

I've used a singlespeed for all the previous rides, but at nearly 18 stone, that was becoming a bit of a struggle.

  • I caught up with him near broxbourne, where I saw the battery for the electric motor

Serves you right for being so competitive ;-)

  • No, no, no.....not competitive at all!

Just didn't want to get beaten.....it's a different thing!! :0)

I think it was the jaunty ting on the bell, and the fact that he may as well have had his fucking legs over the handlebars!! And he ignored my enthusiastic salutation!!
