@Skülly offset pad holders only give an extra 3 or 4mm.

only work with regular DP brakes thoughIf your frame is drilled for DP brakes you can get long drop Tekros 55- 73 mm brakes.

I've been looking all over the forum now, and I can't find any definitive answers.
Did anyone actually do the conversions on a mark 2 kaffenback?
I'm looking for a cheap placeholder frame while a friend of mine is getting ready to build me a 650b frame. -

No matter what you say, 650b looks out of proportion on a lot of these conversions.

Ok wise people. Considering 650b studded tyre options. There's one that's 40-584 which Peter White measures as being 35 mm high & wide on a velocity synergy rim, which has a 17 mm internal width (according to some quick googling). The rims on my recent build are 19 mm internally. Are the tyres likely to come up wider but less high on a wider rim, or what. Have 35 mm tyres on there now, probably room for a few more mms but not loads.
Ps. @yostumpy I'm rootin for ya, Olive. Think it looks good with the 650b's on it!

Zoom in on the fork crown?
-
• #462
chinese carbon fork would solve that, but it doesn't bother me that much. I like how jank it is.

• #463
Totally would.

I really want a Santa Cruz Hightower.

I bought one of the 2017 Pine Mountains last week. Should be putting it together and going out on it tomorrow and I'm very excited. Never thought I'd buy an off the peg complete again but it's such a good price. Only downside on the 2017 is the joytech hubs really, and the 2016 one has formulas.
Do it! -
• #466
Joytech over Formula all day long!
-
• #467
my knowledge of low end OTP hubs is limited, so I defer to your knowledge! Will probs replace wheelset as soon as I'm not broke cause I want dynamo anyway.
-
• #468
Anyone ever come across a 650b single speed wheelset with a flipflop hub? Love to get a set on my pomp.
Also - would they work ok with Mini V's?
-
• #469
Isn't Joytech made in the same factory as Formulas?
-
• #470
Formula make a lot of the SRAM hubs as well as Surly and a few others. Joytech is the parent company of Novatec (think Tektro/TRP). Both big companies with factories in both TW and China. Joytech definitely nudge it on the quality front though.

let me know how you get on / take some photos!
I am super tempted to put it on finance even though I don't need it, can't afford it and have no-where to keep it.
-
• #472
And the other problem as it's being an MTB that it's not exactly a bike you can ride off road easily like you would ride a road bike.

My grandmother's bike, the only one she ever had, that she got during the war (she always said how much of a privilege / lucky it was to get hold of one back then), that she used all her life, carried me and my cousins on when we were kids, that my grand father had re-welded (badly, should have been brazed obviously) by one of his metal worker friends when the seat tube started failing (mixed frame), and that she used in the end, just pushing it to the shops to help her walk, was a 650b, referred to as "demi ballon".
How visionary she was! -

... And of course, a French celebrity, way older than my grandma, the mean Carmen Cry, also riding 650b...

Say what Ed?
(622 - 584)/2 = 19 mm.
