What's stopping you bolting the arm of the light straight to the mid fork mount?
Hadn't considered it actually. However, just went out for a ride around the block and my concerns about the angle seem unfounded... Good throw, decent amount of light. Overall it seems the location is probably OK!
These light need to be angle down a lots to prevent blinding incoming road user which is annoying because it shorten the beam distance drastically.
I managed to mount my E3 directly onto a bolt with a modified SON light bracket.
