If anybody's planning on doing a bit of decorating this weekend Dulux are running the Dulux Paint+ Cashback Challenge.
Buy up to ten 2.5L tins of paint between 26th and 29th August, register your purchase (with a photo of the room you're doing) and paint your room within 48hrs to be able to claim your money back via pre-paid MasterCard.
Yes, there's hoops to jump through but if you were going to be targeting a room anyway it's probably worth doing? We'll be taking advantage and giving the bathroom a refresh.

I hadn't seen them, thanks, although I can't work out if you can flip a long thin vertical rad 90° to make it a sleeker horizontal design, we have a couple square bay windowed rooms which need short shallow options.
@Tenderloin thanks, loads of food for thought there.
Next job is to find wall dimmer switches that aren't horrid.

We have one of those acova ones, and I think it doesn't look that great. Not awful/bad just not quite what we wanted.

I wish you hadn't linked that.

I wish my missus hadn't seen it - all the usb plug sockets that need installing...

I mean fucking honestly...

I have every style of the Vita pendant light shades apart from that one (all hanging from black cord/roses from Dowsing Reynolds up there), and seriously considering this one when we need to do the kids room.

We have Focus SB, including some of these paintable ones:
http://www.focus-sb.co.uk/en/Flat-Plate-Ranges/primed-finish#They are made in Britain and finished by hand but they are truly the Rapha of light switches and their website is a pig to navigate...

Do you purposefully choose to buy from sites which have no logical architecture?!
I like the idea of being able to paint over sockets on coloured walls - how much are we talking?

Dimmer switches. Just buy a load of smart bulbs and stick an old mobile phone to your wall to control them (bonus points for using an old Nokia).
For USB sockets, it may be worth thinking about when it all gets superseded by USB-C.

I'm glad you linked that.

There has rarely been a switch/socket that doesn't accept and retain paint, any decorator will testify to that. Innovation would be a light switch which can't be painted. The problem with painting them is that paint picks up the dirt from fingers and shiny plastic/metal is easier to clean. The type that have been around for years are flush fit with a plastic overlay that can be cleaned, probably the best long term option although a pre-cat spray job would be durable and easy to clean.

Quinn. Fitted out our last place with these: http://www.quinn-radiators.com/products/slieve-horizontal/. British made from British steel, weigh an absolute fucking tonne, very high BTU values for the size.

Magnetic knife racks. Discuss.

How do they work?

Who knows?

I like mine - it stops decent knives getting blunt in a drawer and encourages me to wash and dry my good knives pretty much straight off, not slung on the dishwasher.
