Agreed.

Bring bikes.
While others play we could actually have fun. -

Fishing next for the Olympics. Bet we could do some medalling in that.

The problem with golf has never really been the affordability-it's more the fact that to play it anywhere decent you have to be surrounded with the worst aspects of middle class cuntishness.
However, as a sport you can play whilst very drunk golf is highly inclusive with optimum scope for taking an open-air piss whenever necessary. Apart from that, there is something very satisfying and zen about hitting a tiny ball several hundred yards and landing it yards from the pin and when I'm too old and decrepit to do much else I'll probably start playing again.

Isn't golf a bit like going to the races? People assume it's the preserve of the upper classes but that it's black cab drivers who participate?
Over at Perivale golf course the car park is just full of black cabs.

The driving range is the real fun part of golf.
Hearing the sweetspot ping, seeing the ball fly, and chasing it a few strides while shouting 'AV-IT-YOU-GOLF-BALL-BASTARD!'
Seemed a bit less acceptable in henley-on-thames then it did on the Manchester municipal.

10m platform long dive. 3m springboard long dive. Cowards can do the standing long dive.
The excitement as the athletes start their run up to jump at speed off a wet diving board will only be beaten by the excitement of how big a belly flop they are willing to (literally) stomach.

Prob best that the pool has a thick crust of something in top to allow judges to measure accurately from the hindmost point of entry. Or maybe lasers can do that.
-
• #788
Triple jump long dive?
-
• #789
Pole vault and double pike

See, fantastic possibilities with no drawbacks at all.
Will even encourage children to take up swimming AND running or pole vault.
Gymnastic long dive? Off a vault?

Speed golf is coming (but is less fun than it sounds):

Would not watch.
You need to limit the time of their shots / time allowed per hole, make the course matchplay and limit the total number of shots they're allowed to play, add zones onto the course to give bonus points if they hit the ball into them, arrange the rules so that helmets somehow become a necessary piece of kit... -
• #792
They should roll dice to determine what club they use for each shot. Players should tee off at the same time and the one who puts their ball in the hole first gets a bonus shot. Multiball.
-
• #793
Yeah! And add some obstacles in the zones too, maybe some barriers, and a windmill. Then limit them to only using a putter.
-
• #794
All this and more.
It's still just be golf though, so I still wouldn't watch it :)

Golf needs more alligators in the water hazards.

From the Wapha sponsored cycling podcast
For the pursuit, Wiggins says he was using a 117 gear inch (96GI at the Sydney Olympics) in order to achieve a 3:50 time.
-
• #797
I'm not surprised...even with that gear they need to be doing about 110RPM.
