Commuting is the second use in my opinion, I've always loved cycling and I am really looking to build this bike for enjoyment. I imagine I'll use it for commuting when I am more confident with my fixed abilities.
I haven't purchased any of these components yet, however the H Plus Son have been recommended to me but quite a few people now!
Would you recommend 42/16 for general usage?

If you're going to use this bike for commuting, you might be better off selling your wheel parts, skipping the wheel build and just getting a pair of Halo Aerorage/Aerotrack.
Also, if you're riding fixed in the city, you'll want to avoid 48/18. Google 'skid patches'.
