Interesting survey. Completed.

Thank you howard so much! academic institution usually force us into performing these qualitative surveys, I had to ask the riders here in the UK because the road system is unique, in a good way. The UK follows a hybrid system that is very hard, I've seen two cyclists travelling on three areas of the same road, one on a cycle path, another on a shared bus lane, and a third on normal lanes. I got confused, because building a system for these riders is so complicated.
Hopefully survey results can allow us computer scientists to get a glimpse of what goes inside the british cyclist's head.
THANK you guys for your participation, what a wonderful community you are. I love you all

Screened out eh?
-
• #5
Oh no Lae! this survey only targeting people who use bicycles and motorcycles as a main mode of transportation, basically two wheeled riders if you know what I mean.

Interesting. There is a typo in question BC5 though! 'Tree' instead of 'Three'.
Also when discussing injuries, you've assumed there's always another vehicle/person involved...whereas I've wrecked myself thanks to a pothole or road fault which isn't an option.

PASTRY I love you! ALL FIXED
We already have quantitative data about road surface collision, when we asked about the second party person, we wanted to see if we can build a smart system that allow you and that other person to be aware of each other.
Note: Im sorry if this survey is not up to marketing standards, us CS postgrads are just lousy fat programmers with a taste for pizza!!!

Also, another typo. Breaking, instead of braking.

Nice to see a survey that's a bit different....
My main gripe is the question about why you cycle...there is no option for "because I like cycling" or "because it's better than commuting on a train full of wankers"
Other than that, good effort and good luck.

I commute every day by bike but drive probably 500 miles most weekends, so I selected car. My fault I guess.

Fixed again, how can I live without you poetic. Please marry me.
-
• #12
So sorry lae :( These screening mechanisms make me lose my mind, because I end up losing potential candidates like yourself who commute daily on a bike. :(
-
• #13
was standing all day serving free coffee to fellow cyclists that did the survey, wish it was you guys. Free starbucks kenyan blends to boost your daily rides

Done.

Filled in for teh lolz.
MC23 should have had a 'Fuck-No!' option though.
I wouldn't want any 'CAT' interferance with my riding.
-
• #16
Could MC23 not be multiple choice?
-
• #17
I was thinking of that as well. but can only change the text within the question not the way it is done :( you are so spot on Pifko

Hate to be that guy, but shouldn't
I am currently researching within the UK only, the cultural/Behavioural traits and practices that exit within the motor and pedal cycling community.
be exist?
Going to edit this and add my thoughts as I go through (thinking out loud, not critical)
Motor cyclists are road users that share the same visibility related hazards as Pedal cyclists, due to similar two-wheeled dynamics and an overall smaller size.
Isn't the real point of an ASL to put slow moving cyclists ahead of fast moving traffic? As a motorcycle should be able to move off at the same pace as cars around it, there is no need for them to filter to the front of an ASL? (although for this to be relevant we would first need the things to be enforced which I have little faith in happening)
and W/R/T CAT - I think it is potentially a good idea, but I'm unwilling to use something that enables other road users to blame me for their negligence (for e.g. oh he wasn't wearing a helmet / hi-viz so it was totally legitimate that I hit him). I have numerous SMIDSY's and I'm sick of being blamed as a victim

completed it, second what scrabble said, should be a "I like cycling" answer.
In my case I don't get a lot of opportunities outside of my commute for cycling so sometimes extend it by taking longer routes.
good luck -

you are so spot on Pifko
You remind me of lynchman

with a taste for pizza!!!
This is something I whole-heatedly (and stomach-ly) support

I was looking for an option like this myself. First and foremost, for me, is the love of cycling; the listed options are byproducts of this fact.
I filled in the survey and look forward to hearing of how the collated information is utilized.

Interesting survey, Nasser. I couldn't answer all of the questions, as they either didn't have the options I needed or there would have been too much to say.

Done, like others I had to tick a lot of buttons that I didn't actually agree with but couldn't see a better fit. As an example, I don't like ASLs and I don't use them, so answering anything about a motorcyclist "joining me" or not, is not really a good answer.
Dear Beloved UK Cyclists,
I've been a rider for almost 12 years, and wouldn't want to live in a world where I cannot ride my two wheeler, whether its my bicycle or motorbike, and wouldn't want to ride anything other than them. I've covered countless miles and crossed continents as a rider, heck I even made riding an untouched privilege before proposing to my wife.
From a career prospective, I am a computer scientist and a school teacher. A bunch of us scientists are working on their projects and I wanted my project to address only one thing, the safety and well being of a two wheeler. I am currently, with the help of my university (QMUL), working on an interactive design project to bring smart technologies, and to have it save your life, one day.
I am also here to ask you to help me do one small favor, I am asking you to help me fill out a small survey that would take less than ten minutes to complete. Your responses will help guide me into building a very smart system that will do what you guys think it should do, and without your responses I have no guidance.
The UK has the weirdest hybrid system for cycling and motorcycling that I've ever seen in the 71 countries that I've traveled to, and the only way I can build such a system is to ask riders such as your selves, who know the inside outs of UK's roads and driving/riding culture.
Note: I am also throwing 5 vouchers totaling 50 pounds to five winners (can be redeemed at thousands of stores) just to thank you for your time. I will send the winners emails and will post them by mail at the soonest chance! and if you want, I can also donate your winnings to any charity of any cause, or contribute/support to LFGSS instead.
