35mm Compass to start as I already have them. Superstar are a good shout actually for wheels, though I think I'll get groupset stuff sorted first.

Reminds me I have a slightly worn Hed Ardennes 24 spoke rim. Yours for £25 to go with the SP Dynamo.
-
• #29
Get medium cage anyway for when you want more than a 28t
-
• #30
I've been slogging up hills with 40/26 for a couple of years, 34/28 will be a dream.
-

Offroad=mud=low gears
I would get it just incase, it will still work fine with 28t, but saves you needing to buy another mech if/when you want a bigger cassette

These rims are bargainous atm.
I've been using the i19s on my Straggler for over a year without any problems and I weigh twice as much as you.

If you want even cheaper ( but slightly heavier ), I have some Stans Flow EX I'm no longer using.

I hadn't really considered handbuilts but they look really good thanks, ordered. 35mm tyres on 23mm internal gonna be plushhhh.
I'll get SBC to lace them up to Shimano centrelocks, fag packet calculations reckons on about 1800g. Not bad!

Any particular reason to spend €15 extra on XT over Deore for the front?
-
• #36
XT rear? You wont be putting road 11 speed cassette then?
-
• #37
Is road 11spd different to MTB? Fucking Shimano man.

FFS what's the point in that.
What cheap 135mm 11speed disc rear hub then?

there isnt one :P hence OTP is cheaper for that set up if you can live with "narrow" rims.
Shimano offering (cheapest):

Seems a bit bonkers that new shimano MTB hubs use the old ten speed freehub design. Bah.
-
• #45
Superstar hub - 135mm, disc, takes a road cassette. Cheap and light too - got one with Crest rims on my Arkose.

Perfect, thanks!

• #47
Hmmm I've got some superstar switch hubs kicking around. @umop3pisdn would you be interested?
-
• #48
the 105 hydraulic shifters are fuck ugly, but work very nicely, not noticeabley worse than r685's.
-
• #49
15mm front?
-
• #50
Fugly tho
Cheap
Still going strong on a mates hardtail, and he's a 6"4 brick shithouse. Unless too wide. What tyres you going for?
