  • Yeah Force CX1 Hydro

  • rich have you checked out the gear range with the CX1? I have it on my pickenflick and even with the 42t on the front you can run out of gears.

  • This is my main worry - a 50T would solve that, but I'm more of a grinder than a spinner and have always run 53/39 on all bikes..... However, I'm hoping this is going to be a winter bike and will teach me the art of spin....

Got any CX1 levers/calipers you're looking to pass on?!

  • @Dammit I've creaked!

Changed out the wheels for some nice new carbon ones and it's unbearable. Same QR as before - first thing I changed back. Most of the noise appears to come from the disk rotors flexing into the callipers when going uphill.. weird. But i've got a nice creak/click coming from the rear now. At first i thought it was spoke noise but its definitely not.

    Whats a logical checklist here?

Remove the rotors and smash it up a hill? See if it's stopped?

I now have hope rotors, perhaps they are wider than the Shimano ones that never used to rub? They're centre lock vs current 6 bolt so can't swap.

  • My rotors have always rubbed - I find the noise quite therapeutic....

I don't find BB30 creaks or cable rattle therapeutic though.....

  • I assumed incorrectly that max size was 42t with cx1 but I was wrong - I'm trying oval front and 42t was max size for 110bcd wolf tooth component. my cx1 is also set up with a 11-40t cassette for the hilly bits

sorry, can't see me getting rid even though its a bit cluncky compared to ultegra

  • Are the hope rotors floating alu/steel ones?
Try the dt Swiss rws qr skewers. Supposedly they are the best thing to use on a qr disc brake bike. I'll be buying a pair on pay day.

  • Spin for the win, 42t front and 36-11 rear! Get up anything then ;)

  • they are wider than the Shimano ones

    I think they are...

  • For the lower:
39x28 is 37.1 GI (standard 53/39 lowest gear with 11-28)
    42x36 is 31.2 GI

42x32 is 35 GI (you could even go 11-32)

34-25 is 36.3 GI (so basically you can live with a compact and 11-25)

    For the higer:
    53x11 is 128.7 GI
    42x11 is 102 GI

So the issue is not hills but sprint/flat.
    53x11 at 70rpm is 43kmph
    42x11 at 90rpm is 43kmph

  • Those are the ones, got them because they looked fancy.

Ah, similar clamping to the bolt through. It's strange though, but guess the hubs may have different tolerances and be out a mm or so hence movement.

@Dick do you rub the whole time or just on the uphills/sprints??

  • Better get my spin game oooooooonnnnn

  • That's my plan!

  • I'm always sprinting. If I'm not sprinting I'm sprinting up a hill.....

  • I'm running shit, soggy, heavy Aksiums on a bike that weighs 8+kg though, so to achieve similar warp speed as on my other bike, I have to sprint everywhere! @yeahdext

In reality, they do only rub under duress.

  • Let's not be harsh on the aksium disc now. Solid set of wheels as we discussed. Just a shame they weigh so much.

  • Solid, and soggy.

At the price though, you get a lot for your money.

  • I disagree. At 95KG they have flexed so badly that they have rubbed the paint off both sides of my chain stays... And the rim weld split and folded inwards. Ed has told me to send them back under warranty but Evans want to see them on the bike... I've switched everything over so i think i'll end up just using them on the trainer with thin tyres.

And @Dick my bike is 8.8KG according to my bathroom scales. Meaty! Not sure where the weight is though so that could be very wrong.

  • I have 46 11-36 and would recommend.

42 11-32 would be lighter tho, as amey said

  • I know mate - I thought I had a pretty light setup on my CAAD, apart from the wheels, and it still weighs in at 8.4kg!!!
You can feel the flex and sogginess of the axiums under duress, and I should probably check my fork and chainstays after a rather spicy ride last Saturday and upping my tyre size to 30c, reducing clearance to mm rather than CM.
I would upgrade the wheels, but the chasms of difference in price, compared to small increments in performance and weight are counter-intuitive to the purpose of the CAAD in my stable. Were it my best bike, I'd definitely be switching out the wheels - well - I would have never bought Aksiums in the first place!

  • On 10t or 11t? Quite a noticeable difference between those two.

  • Whilst I get wheel flex I don't get as much as you're suggesting you get. Not saying they're amazing wheels but at £120-140 you can't exactly complain. Well, you can, sounds like you've got a very shite pair but that's the minority.

  • but given that there is no wear on the rims when using disc brakes you can justify having nice carbon wheels on the bike all year round

this was why i got the reynolds assaults for the MAMIL chariot

  • and you love buying stuff
