Dunno. It would work well where you want the force capacity of a single pitch chain of the same roller size with lighter weight, for 1:1 motion translation where you could clock the sprockets to eliminate the chordal action. Synchronisation chain on a tandem would be an obvious cycling example.
Motorcycle chain is usually 5/8 or 3/4, and 1" industrial chain is huge, but Wippermann make a double pitch chain with the same roller width and diameter as 1/2"x1/8" track chain
