That pitch roller chain looks monstrous like a small motorbike's chain. Initially I thought that they used roller chains in combination with skip tooth chainrings in order to reduce friction and save weight. I thought that the idea behind it was that you could just get rid of half the teeth since you have a straigth chainline on track bikes anyway.
What's the deal with skip-tooth chain rings? Less friction I guess, are there any other advantages? Why was the concept abandoned?
