  • I've been replaying a fair bit of Civ 4 lately. (5 was so shit). I've been a fan of the Civ games since the beginning and for me it's a bit of the same thing. I've never been very good at it but I enjoy the hell out of making it up as a go along. There are people who can win games with spreadsheet precision, but that's not how I play the game. And that's what I love about the series. I can play it how I want to. There are very few games like that.

  • Second that. Oddly been playing a game on both C4 and C5 lately and really enjoying it. Even 5. I had wanted to play Civ 2 (the WW2 scenario!) but it was a faff to install for Mac so I stopped.

  • xcom2. pretty much xcom:e.w. but without many of the really annoying base-y-build-y bits that allow you to paint yourself into a corner.

  • Change of pace for me this week... i've been playing Stardew Valley.

It's basically Harvest Moon with an rpg / combat element. It's also fucking great.

  • I fancy giving another game a go, maybe, any FPS recommendations? Or even something different?
FO4 is a bit of a grind for me, open world but with goals, but it hasn't really excited me.
GTA V replaying it, but, maybe over it...
Bioshock (newest one) but linear/repetitive - shooting the same guys every time.

Also, anyone have any good suggestions for iPhone games? Civ games available and worth a shot?

  • Deus Ex.

  • Scratch that. Just read they've included micro-transactions. In a single player game. Fuck that.

    Actually glad I didn't pre-order now.

  • Well the microtransactions are stupid and not really needed. Won't stop me buying it as I like the game but yeah, kinda un-needed. Esp on PC. There will be a save game editor along in a few days that will allow you to do it all free

  • The reviews are mostly positive regardless. Esp that Nixies did the PC port.

Weird, I hate that it's a port to PC. It was developed on PCs!!! Why PC->Console shite->PC.

  • I know. First thing I thought of. Had to own up.

  • One of the most frustrating things about the NMS PC port also, the console ports are more stable than the original PC version.

I'll most likely pick it up myself as I think Human Revolution was possibly the last AAA game I thoroughly enjoyed.

  • No one should support a developer who does this. They claim the game was balanced without them in mind, which may be true, but it's a slippery slope.

Haven't pirated a game in a decade probably. Hoping people still crack games.

  • the console ports are more stable

My ps4 version crashed 3 times in a row so I quit.

  • I think as a whole it should not be done. I get why MMOs do it, esp. people like Guild Wars 2 who have no monthly fee's.

However, a single user game you've already paid $60 is insane

  • Unfortunately I'm really not surprised, the ridiculous pre-order DLC scheme was a huge red flag.

  • My point still stands ;)

  • However, a single user game you've already paid $60 is insane

Exactly. Free to play games - sure. Triple A single player title at full retail price? No thanks.

  • It's basically the equivalent of paying for one-off cheat codes.

And it's clearly in the interest of the seller to make the game harder. And even if they don't, every challenging piece of gameplay will feel like a scam and ruin the experience. Terrible idea.

  • Been slowly trudging my way Prague. Good so far. A few too many crashes and moments of stutter for my liking which take me out of the moment by being on edge for the next crash. Prob 6 hours in and only done the prologue mission and half a side quest which bodes well. Going to finish off Go for my bonus praxis packs.

  • Wasn't aware of micro transactions. Shitty move. Won't be utilising.

  • Is new Doom any good?
    )ps4(

  • I've heard very good things about it (but my friends work for Bethesda). That said, there's been quite a few deals on it, so don't pay full price

  • Seemed fun so far, haven't really done much tho.

  • I've really enjoyed the couple of hours i've played so far.

From the reviews; the single player campaign is incredible and the multiplayer is dogshit though apparently they're continuing to update the multiplayer to make it more like the Doom of old.
