Trimmed in bare copper piping?

Railway sleepers tend to be impregnated with some heavy stuff.
Sawing through some once triggered stomach problems so severe I had to spend a week at hospital.

it could also be the centuries of human excretia that have soaked into the rails festering away
ok, so it's a no from me for railway sleepers
some nice roughly hewn oak fresh from the tree ? -

Painting and chiselling off the molding was my initial thoughts. The inset is marble, but not that nice. The gas fire is black and inoffensive.
I was wondering about buying a simpler surround and possibly tiling the inset.
Overall I'm just not sure what would work.

My ugly fireplace....
Things to note:
- Its a fairly dark room with lowish cellings
- Other half hates the marble (I don't mind some, just not the double whammy hearth + inset)
- Floor may well be changed to a lighter colour.
Taking a step back, I'm wondering about reducing its overall size.
Open to suggestions.

Reckon if you painted it white it would look reasonable.
I've just googled "white wooden fireplace"- looks ok!or go low-profile?

Ardex Feather Finish depending on the rest of the interior of course.
-

Both good ideas. There isn't really any "interior" so to speak - just packing boxes.
White was the first thought. Now looking at that img I'm wondering about a black insert.
Im finding it hard to understand what the Ardex Feather Finish is. Does it give you a sort of concrete like look in the colour of your choice?

Rip the fucker out

Yeah, but it's gas and that = £
Plus there is no rad in the room, so I'm assuming we'll need it come winter.
Would you just go for a flat wall?

Get it engraved so that it looks like you've robbed some marble from a graveyard.

Me and the Mrs are looking for a 'floating wardrobe' shelf thing. We saw this very nice one in Skandium which fits the bill perfectly but it's £449 for just the top part.
Does anyone have any ideas of similar things at a lower price point?https://www.skandium.com/cutter-wardrobe

build it yourself? doesn't look to complicated
-
• #2096
That's a good idea but I want it to look nice, not a cack handed compromise.

Nail a pallet to the wall?
(If that fails, check out the Futon Comapny. We got some nice Oak ladder shelves from them that were reasonably priced. they even got Dommy approval)

Anyone know anywhere I can get something like this in the uk? https://www.schoolhouseelectric.com/collections/wall-sconce-fixtures/products/l-sconce
Tempted to make my own but it starts to get pricey...
Cheers,

not helpful, but the skagerak stuff is really lovely. I indulged on their coat hangers because I'm an idiot. Nice but pricey.
paint it - same colour as wall if really ugly
