For bats. If you stand in open ground and twirl a length of hose pipe above your head at dusk, bats will investigate the noise and fly around above you.

I did not know that, interesting. I see bats regularly, just never had a collision with one before. I guess they aren't really expecting anyone to be cycling along where their dinner is.
