  • definitely put something in there.

Its a bloody Nice stem though. Really wide clamp. Feels Nice and stiff.

  • has anyone come up with a nicer clamp/strap for the alfine sc705 display unit, hoping to attach it to my stem as it's a bit in the way on the bars I've got.

  • Boo! Thanks, tho.

  • Sram has a rather comical section on their website dedicated to saying "no" to this question in dozen different ways.

    https://sramroadsupport.zendesk.com/hc/en-us/categories/200427827-Programming

  • wow both amazed by the oddity of the page and disappointed by the lack of customizability of eTap...

  • Give it time, I'm sure some smart people will figure out how to hack it eventually.

  • As someone who neither rides fast or competitively I wouldn't want this. For the proper fast 'uns who ride fast against other fast 'uns is this a welcome innovation or the solution to a none existent problem?

  • Maybe useful for TTs but unless someone gives me one to test for free I'm not likely to bother. I just post out of interest.

  • I can't see the value but I'm pretty ignorant of these things. Is interesting tho.

  • Pacing. Set power value, ride, forget gearing. Tune to suit optimum cadence.

    Maybe.

  • you guise that functionality is native in the new 9170 DA groupset and currently present in XTR Di2 .. Sram needs to catch up.

  • @Dammit What Di2 set-up do you have on your P76? I know it's 1x11 but which parts did you use?

  • R785 shifters, XTR display/front junction box, four port (little rectangular) junction in the downtube, internal battery inside the seat tube (seat post has too small an ID to accept the battery so it's in the seat tube with a looped zip-tie on the end to allow an unfurled clothes hanger to pull it out), XTR Di2 rear mech.

Edited to add: Wolfstooth anti-drop 50T ring and XX1 10-42 cassette, Ultegra chain.

If you duplicate this setup you will need to plug a road rear mech in instead of the XTR one in order to use the e-tube software to program the setup, otherwise it's firmly in "just works" territory.

  • Allowing some tweaking wouldn't hurt either. Not impressed by etap shifting speed.

  • So you can't setup a xtr rear mech with r785 shifters and run the etube software?

  • Thanx for the reply. Am thinking of using mid cage Ultegra and a 42t narrow wide. My frame is not at the painter yet so I'm looking into making adjustments for running internal wiring.

  • "Semi"

  • been coming for a while - can't really see the benefit over Di2 tbh

might make for cheap off-the-pegs with electronics?

  • Am I right in thinking that etap is still only available as a full group?

I'd only want a rear derailleur, 4 blips, the junction box and any other sundries needed to run 1x on a tt bike.

Any news when it'll become available as parts?

  • So you can't setup a xtr rear mech with r785 shifters and run the etube software?

Nope, software won't recognise it as a system, so you can't configure it.

  • that's f-ed up

  • My eTap rear derailleur died on me on Saturday.

I was riding out of London and had just crossed the Chilterns when it just stopped moving. The front was fine, but nothing at the back. I had a long weekend of riding in and around Wales planned, so wasn't best pleased to say the least.

Anyway, I was only about 15 miles out of Oxford so decided to head there to see if a bike shop could have a look and maybe give me details of someone at SRAM to contact. The first shop I found was Beeline Bicycles, a SRAM dealer, but when I got there the head mechanic was at lunch. They offered to look after the bike while I did the same and he'd have a quick look when he got back. When I returned, he confirmed that it was a terminal failure (the first he'd seen) and my weekend riding was over. Once I'd finished crying, we got chatting and it turns out that the shop's racing team is sponsored by SRAM and he's got a good relationship with the head of SRAM Europe.

Anyway, long story short, he had a word in the boss's ear and they agreed to warranty replace my dead mech for the one in their last remaining full group! Unbelievably generous of them and amazing service. They had me back on the road 30 mins later, disaster averted.

It does make me worry about the lack of spares available though and hope it's not long before they are.
