If you can get your hands on the Stone Berlin Go To IPA cans buy them all. They are ridiculously good and uber cheap.

We'll be harvesting these babies in a week or so ready for some autumn brewing. Will probably have some spare if any one wants. Not sure what variety they are...

^ Wow!
Obviously they should be called Skydancer Hops. If you are happy to put them in a bag and post I'll pay P&P and use them for a brew.

BTW. How easy was it to grow them?
-
• #5256
First year they didn't bear fruit. We built a cobbled wall over where they were planted. They grew between the cobbles so fast and we trained them up the house. Grew about a foot a day then flowered and fruited over the past 3 weeks. A bag is yours after the harvest.
I figure we'll get at least a kilo... How much would we need for a couple of Demi john's for our Christmas ale?

I figure we'll get at least a kilo
Hops are usually well below 100g per 5 gallons unless you are going full-hipster brewing from what I can tell. Kat will probably tell more specifically.
And thanks for the offer, much appriciated. Looks like I need to get some trellis sorted out for next year!

Get them in the freezer as soon as you pick, they deteriorate quickly

^ Yup, this. Vac Pac as well if you can.

Will do. Planning on a dark spicey one barley wine strength for Xmas. I figure 2/3 Demijohns worth. Will look up recipes. I've brewed a lot of wine from raw materials only beer from kits. Will research recipes. Any tips welcome @kat_balou
Also anyone know when the hops are best picked?

If you're going all grain make sure the vessel you are brewing in is big enough to contain the amount of grain you need as you will need a lot, if not do a double mash or go extract or partial extract

Great tip... Cheers!

Worth looking at a SMaSH brew so you can taste what the hops are like if you don't know the variety?

Discovered The Beer Shop in Nunhead by accident this evening, Cloudwater DIPA v6 on keg which was a happy find, seemed like nice people with a good concept and selection, definitely going back.

Cloudwater DIPA v6
Bottle on the go now. Tasty, sweet. Will sleep well.

So good!

A mate has just moved to Nunhead. Think I will pay him a visit.

Love The Beer Shop, It's a great little place.

DIPA v7 tonight, think I prefer this. Not so sweet/ripe, but huge flavours and no hint of the 9%ishness. Will sleep well again.

One last question. Should I dry the hopes before I freeze them or freeze straight after picking ?
-
• #5272
Good question, yes dry them before as they tend to go mushy in the freezer like lettuce.

• #5273
Nice they had bottles at the shop, but I had other places to be.
Cracked open a few Belgian beers I brought back from Bruges last night. Got a bottle of the Lindemans/Mikkeller Spontanbasil I have resisted opening so far.
-
• #5274
Thanks. If you also want a bag let me know and I'll post

Awesome that'd be lovely, whereabouts are you? We are SE London.
Spontanbasil is bloody marvelous , you're going to wish you bought more.
They sensibly serve thirds in the bottle shop so should be ok
