I did my 11 plus in 1998 and went to a grammar school. I did 4 more GCSE's than friends in local standard secondary school. There are still grammar schools here (Buckinghamshire). I got in based purely on my 11 plus score but having older siblings already in the school helped some people get places. Some parents also made donations...
