I can't however say Shimano makes bad groups, actually they are as good as their competitors. Every one has their pros and cons.
But if I can choose, I prefer Campag.If I may ask, what actually made you so disgusted?

Just put 4700 on my partner's bike.
It's better than my 105 5700 for sure, though I imagine the difference with 105 5800 is minimal.

The difference of the price between 105 and Tiagra become moot when the components are cheaper to replace on the Tiagra.

Very minimal to the point I didn't realised the test bike I've been riding is actually Tiagra, not 105.
And most definitely better than 5700 by a long shot, even 6700 felt sloppy in comparison.

Anyone know what you do if you break part of a etap group? Considering upgrading but there doesn't seem to be any individual parts of the group available should the worst happen. Are they coming soon?

Have a question, know absolutely nothing about gears and different groupsets ect.
Wanting to run a 1x setup for commuting.
Are there any groupsets that have the shifting on the 2 different levers, e.g. Up on one side and down on the other. Or do they all work like normal shifters with up and down on one lever only??

So most 1x setups would just shift of one side and have nothing on the other.
No cheaper systems exists where both levers control just the rear derailer?

Nothing really, I just liked the idea of having up and down on different ones. And wondered if there was anything out there that did it.

The initial price difference of tiagra and 105 is very tight, IMHO unless the wheels can't handle 11 speed don't see why would choose tiagra.
Nah you were right - price difference between Tiagra 4700 and 105 5800 was under five quid.
Quite a few of the 105 parts were cheaper than Tiagra, including the brifters by £22. I think only the chainset, cassette and rear mech were more expensive.

The main difference is because 4700 is a newer groupset whether 5800 have been around for a while and the price drop is due to this.

Wow that's even less than I found the last time, it was around 10-15 pound.
Buying a good chain wear tool would be great way to minimise the time to change the chains.
It was at around 4000 km according to Park tool, but I tried using shimano cn41 to find out it still good and it indicate to change at when at last reaching around 7000 km -

n that case, get a cassette wear checker too, even if your chain is slightly worn, it doesn't mean your cassette have yet to worn.
11 speed chain wear out significally quicker too, mean it need replacing more often.
